Some areas have received 20" of rain in a 6 hour period since midnight after continuous rain for the previous 36 hours. Mostly around Beaumont and westward toward Houston and I'm sure some areas of Houston area too. I-10 is closed between Beaumont and Houston both directions due to flooding. News here reporting that flooding is worse than tropical Storm Harvey but this area was one of the areas that was devastated 2 years ago.

Damn. Hopefully more bought flood insurance after Harvey.

20" in 6 hours is unheard of to me. Is that extremely isolated areas?

It's impinging on the highest concentration of petrochemical refining in the world. Yep, some of it is rice growing/ranching. This stretch of I-10 is the busiest interstate in America (yep, busier than I-95). Right now the traffic jam is around 50 miles long at a standstill . . . and growing.

It's not just the amount of rain that's falling. It's the fact that it's slow moving, as well. This is shades of Tropical Storm Allison years ago. Allison stalled over the city and that's how it flooded so bad.

Imelda is worse in that it's alot more rain and is very slow moving.

I think it's safe to say we need "Prayers and good thoughts" not only in Texas, but everywhere Mother Nature released her fury, including the devestaion of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas.

Those folks literally lost everything. Their families being deported all over the United States so they have food and roofs over their heads while they wait for their island/homes to be rebuilt.

Yes these kinds of events are becoming commonplace unfortunately.

It was slow going out of downtown (going south), but I made it home in about an hour. Good luck!

Some of my co worker got stuck on freeway because of flooding. I stayed at my office and will wait it out. Radar is looking better and roads should drain off pretty quick as most Bayou are still within their banks.
