I wish we would have signed him in the offseason. When Wentz signed for $32 million/year it was obvious we were going to have to offer Dak at least $34-35 million.

Oh well. Glad he’s playing great. He’s earned a nice contract!
I recall around that time that some thought $22-23M should be the most offered to Dak (and that he wasn't worth even that). Bottom line, the longer he's unsigned, the more he's going to cost. The risk for Dak, which apparently he's willing to bear, is injury. Jerry should get him under wraps as quickly as possible, but it takes two to tango. Dak has to be onboard for anything to get done.

Problem is, the other quarterbacks the three teams Dallas has played have done pretty much the same thing to them.

Let's play some playoff caller defenses and see how it goes, eh?

Optimism is high, but let's measure our enthusiasm until we see this offense under pressure.

I said that in the off-season and people said no because Dak couldn’t increase his value and no team would give him even 30 million. I knew this would happen. It was the first time they took a honest approach at helping Dak....of course he was going to play better. But it’s still early. I guess he could eventually be brought back down to earth and maybe the value can go back to about 30.......

I beg to differ, at least in our conversations. I said that nobody would offer him more then that this season. I never said he could not be worth that. Nobody has offered him that to date, so far as I know.

But for the fact some take her words seriously as if she were a part of the negotiations, this would be funny.

I believe the numbers are set. It's the length (size matters) that the hold up over. Once Goff got his extension, I think the money parameters were pretty much set, more than Wentz but Less than Goff (he has out performed Wentz and hasn't taken the team as far as Goff). I would shocked and mortified, if he (or any QB/Player gets 40 mill per year. I know it's coming but man, that's a crap ton of money to play a game and eats up the cap.) At this rate, the NFL is going to be broken down to QB competitions because that will be all they can afford, the QB.

Anyone remember the heady days of Jan 2019, when postseason talk first centered on Dak’s extension...with most here opining that he shouldn’t/wouldn’t receive anything more than @$22 mil per??!? ;):)

Whenever this deal actually gets done, Zoners will be cheering if Dak signs for any dollar amount less than @$40 mil per.

I don't remember that. What I remember was the idea of paying him 30-35 early or before he plays out the season. Again, I'd have to say that to this point, that's proving to be true still. I don't remember people arguing that he shouldn't get paid, per say. I just remember the majority of those who supported waiting, wanting to wait because it was certainly not clear if he would take the next step in his development. I'd have to say that the jury on that is still out. We really have not played a decent defense as yet so we really don't know the answer yet. However, I will say this, Dak has looked a lot better to this point and if he does show that he's able to be consistently good, even against good defenses, then I'm all for paying the guy and I think most would feel that same way.

kinda a no win situation really, same as d-law. you've got guys you clearly want to build around, but at the most expensive positions in football and with plenty of question marks surrounding them. we let them prove themselves, and unfortunately (well fortunately) they delivered and then some.

but hey, they can afford it so who cares.

Jerry has a feather in his cap also.
Dak is on record saying he doesn't expect to be the highest payed QB in the league.

If you give Dak all the money he wants Charlotte please do it under the table and keep it off the books.

I love these kind of quotes from our ownership. It’s exactly why we’re a dysfunctional organization because the ownership can’t stop promoting their product while negotiations are underway.
It’s frikin pathetic. Just **** until he’s signed.

Is that giving him the money he wants and doing it under the table the same thing or are those separate?

She is right to an extent! Stephen and Jerruh are making it harder on themselves by not getting it done sooner than later.
Maybe . It’s a roll of the dice. We shall see. Nobody’s hanging banners in September.

According to reports, it is the length of the contract that the Joneses want, 6-7 years, and his team wants less than that to max his earning potential. With the alarming rate these QB salaries escalated, it's the smart move. If he signs a 4 year deal, when that's up, the new high could be 50M a year or higher.
Pay him now.
