Japanese kicker (just a reminder)

(Mods, if you'd like to merge this with my previous thread, that's fine, but I'm doing this as more of a reminder. A bit like a reboot)

I don't know about you, but I'm highly highly unimpressed with Brett Maybe (credit to Scooter) Maher. He probably did as much to lose the game as did the rest of the team. In the offseason, I suggested bringing in a Japanese kicker by the name of Takeru Yamasaki. I admit I may be a tad annoying about him when it comes to discussing kickers, but we've got to have a better kicker than Maher. Maher is inconsistent at best. So, below is a recent video that Yamasaki posted from a recent game in which he was kicking off. Very good kicks.

And, below this is a video that he also put together of him kicking. I've posted this before, but if you haven't seen it, here's a look at him again. Here's why i go on about him a lot.

I've found loads more from him if you would all like to see more. The point is, with his leg and the accuracy that I see in these videos, he's GOT to have a crack with us. He's got an absolute cannon for a leg.

Bret Maher is currently 4 of 7 with a 57% FGP he is ties for 22nd on the league with 8 other kickers ---

In 2018 he finished the season ranked 29th by FGP at 81% total of 7 misses on the year

Not sure why the cowboys have so much faith -----

He is nearly at the percentage of a coin flip with each kick and honestly i worry even about PAT's

We need to find another kicker so looking above WHY NOT Give him a shot ?

Exactly, and this chap, based on what I see, seems to routinely put the kicks between the pipes. It's almost criminal that he hasn't had a chance in the NFL. We should be the team that gives him the chance. God knows we need better kicking, and we can bring him to Dallas very easily. In fact, if I was Jerry, I'd send my private jet for him to show him we want him.

It’s not that they have so much faith in him.

So your saying currently there are 8 other kickers worse than him. What we have to choose from in free agency is worse than those 8 other kickers.

That's why I'm looking abroad. I like what I see from the Japanese X-League. They've got surprisingly good players (though not as tall in some positions) for being a country not known for American Football. And this chap is one of the best I've seen. Remember how Aussie punters became a thing with how well they punt? We may start a trend of Japanese kickers with the power this chap has.

And from a business perspective to jerry ---- He would get a wealth of Japanese fans just kinda like when the yankees signed matsui or the pitcher they have now jersey sales for the kicker would most likely be epic over there

Oh, and if you missed it, some of those kicks he was putting through were from 64 and he was easily clearing the crossbar.

Exactly. We are already well known. But the Japanese aren't like super big on the sport. This is a way to break into the Asian market and announce our presence there. Japan's a big market, and Jerry would be smart to get in that market. Yamasaki provides that for us. And, by using his jet to bring him here, it would say to Japan that we like them and see them as a good market for us.

I am curious if it would be like baseball where jerry would have to fork over tons of cash just for the rights to discuss and get him out of a contract he is in !

oh nice i watched a few of them i think to the 50+ i have to go back and watch again LOL

Yeah lol, he's a monster kicker. And goodness, can you imagine if we can get into the Japanese market? Blimey! The possibilities are endless for Jerry. He'd be a fool not to try to break in like that. The businessman he is? He'd be in like a shot if he realizes the marketing he could do with Japan. And, with how many fellow young people like me like Japanese media products like anime, that could become EPIC for our team. And it'd be cool to have some Japanese posters joining us.

Well, if I were him, I'd go straight for the Japanese entertainment industry like Pokemon. If we can go straight at the Japanese entertainment industry and try to break in that way, i bet that we could create quite the pipeline of talent for us in Japan. It would be epic for our team. I think it's worth Jerry investing in it. It'd produce long term benefits to our team and would be the greatest marketing ploy Jerry has ever done.

And I shouldn't think so. I think the X-League would be happy to have a major owner (and Jerry no less) taking interest in a player in their league at last.

Here's another video I've found of him. He misses 1 57 yard kick, and he barely makes a 60 yard kick hitting it off the crossbar. Other than that, he has them sailing through, even from 63. If you notice, he connects the 54 yard kick that Maher missed each time he attempted it (including the second 54 yard kick going straight down the middle). See for yourself what you all think.

I'm thinking this chap is for real. He looks like a really good kicker, and we'd be smart to get him. Plus, as was mentioned earlier, he could be a good way for us to gain the Japanese market which is a marketing win for Jerry.

Whenever Brett would miss the two things I would think about are... “Why haven’t we signed Matt Bryant?” And your older thread “Why haven’t we even brought this guy in for a tryout?” I get with Bryant we would need another guy for kickoffs but I don’t think Jones is really lighting up the punting world so bring one in that could. Also this Japanese kicker could also kickoff so he makes even more sense.

I wish they would explain the thought process on this all.

Bryant, I think, is with the Falcons again. So yes, this would be the chap to bring in since we need a kicker change. And yes, he is very good at kickoffs, this chap. So, he'd fit well here. Also, Jones is ok, but I think an Aussie punter would be good to bring in. I'd also like to know why they haven't at least given him a try out as well. I reckon he'd easily beat out Maher.

Cuz I think he looks good and worth trying out.

I would say there are probably a few kickers with experience in both college football or the NFL I'd try out before him. The NFL is a whole different ball game and atmosphere with increased pressure. Seems like a feel good story, I just think when you're looking for a kicker from Japan, desperation has kind of set in.
