Very good question. I can only think of two possibilities that *might* be true:

• Marinelli successfully argued the offense's time of possession would increase, reduce the time the opposing offenses would have the ball, and give the defense more time to recuperate between possessions.
• Garrett and Moore considered the last few defenses faced would require the offense more time to recognize and execute better play selection during pre-snap.

I’m not bothered by pederson saying what he did.
