How do we get that Patriots level execution?

How do you find another Belichick? I don't know it's possible.

In many ways I think most people take Belichick for granted because we are living in his era. Sorta like being a college basketball fan during the John Wooden era.

As good as we realize he is today, we are going to look back 20 years from now and acknowledge how utterly amazing he (and Brady) have been.

+1

He's a freak of nature who started learning how to break down game film at around the age of five with his father who was a coach at West Point and then he met Ernie Adams (who many have never heard of) when I think they were like eight years old. They've been obsessing about football football together most of their lives. No one can match their brainpower & experience. The only hope is they'll retire soon. If they don't, they'll continue winning even after Brady and it wouldn't surprise me if Belichik and Ernie want to hang around long enough to show they can win without Brady.

The story of these two is fascinating, I highly recommend reading about their history

Dear Jerry,

Coaching matters. You have a mediocre head coach (results prove it) and have had nine seasons to see it. It takes an excellent coach to win in the playoffs. You cannot be serious about winning a super bowl again with a mediocre head coach.
The truth hurts Jerry. But it’s better than continuing to live a lie.

Sincerely.
A Cowboys fan who doesn’t buy your product until things change

He doesn't care about that, he cares most about being front and center of all things Cowboys. Taking winning seriously & above all else would force him to give up the limelight he covets so much to an expert in their craft who would create an environment, while conducive to winning, that would make jeri miserable and he's made it clear, thats simply too high of a price to pay.

Anybody notice last night the loophole that allowed Belichick to run 2.5 minutes off the clock by continuously taking delay of game penalties (and the Jets kept declining them)?

Belichick admitted during his press conference that its something the NFL is going to need to fix....

just freaking brilliant, I'm so jealous of how they leave no stone untuned

I think one slept-on aspect of what makes the Pats exceptional is they are great at self-scouting. They have no qualms about cutting bait with unproductive players or trying to keep roster spots open for legacy players (see Witten).

They treat every spot on the roster as potential contributor. Just yesterday they had two non-offensive players serving as goalline fullbacks. Meanwhile, we’ve got a below average run blocking fullback (Olawale) on the roster that has certain skills as a pass catcher that aren’t ever utilized.

It starts at the top, when your owner/GM makes a statement that he's looking for reasons to keep his head coach it tells me that he doesn't want to make a change. Why? Does he like Garrett? Does he feel comfortable with Garrett? Does he have a problem admitting his hire was wrong? Does he not want to win a championship?

An owner/GM need only look for one thing in his staff, and that is proficiency. From head coach to ball boy, this wealthiest franchise in sports should want the very best that money can buy.

Even when Patriots lose, 95% of the players look sharp and masters of their position. They execute almost perfectly play after play. Every player seems to know the technique to use for each situation and mistakes are rare.

What are they doing that could help Dallas improve? It is not all Brady though having a vet in the pocket certainly helps.

Garret going on 10 years, is he really not preparing for every team and not adjusting during the game or what?
top 3 coach of all time and top 3 QB of all time seem to make all the rest a bit easier....
add being insanely draconian with the salary cap and loyal to zero other players and well there you go.

Although, in fairness, I have been told that Jason Garrett is basically Bill Belichick.

It helps when your QB is so good at quickly reading defenses and immediately delivering the ball on target that they don't bother populating their OL with anything more than JAGS. Think of all the money and high draft picks that saves.

Jerry loves to pass himself off as a football guy, who wants to win but isn't willing to do what it takes to get there. Unfortunately, it requires hiring a head coach who's willing to think for himself, free of an owner who's compelled to dictate everything he does. They also hire capable GMs.

It's a crying shame that Jerry could never live with that. Good owners hire the right people and allow them to be themselves, rather than mere puppets of an egocentric control freak. It'll likely remain that way, barring a change of mystical proportions.

Why JJ and the Tuna are no longer here.

It’s not just something people say around here because they don’t like him. Garrett’s coaching philosophy is to “do what we do better”. He’s proud of that and proudly talks about it.

Belicheck’s is do your job and I’ll tell you what that job is each week.
