Its interesting that they had Jaylon Smith rated higher than Carson Wentz. Its entirely possible time proves them right.

Also I thought they had a first round grade on Maliek Collins, didn't they say that after the draft?

They had Carson Wentz ranked ahead of Dak. Thank God they didn't make that mistake.....

I said before that draft that I wanted them to draft both Dak and Paxton Lynch. I still think Lynch would have done something here if given time to develop, I loved Dak but wanted him in the 3rd round. But clearly I had no idea he would be as good as he has become.

A final draft board is not just talent. Everything is factored into it. Hence the move guys up or down based off of things other than their talent.

Keep in mind their draft board is just based on talent.

With the injury they would not have drafted Jaylon where they have him rated on the draft board.

I personally had M.Collins rated as a late 1st round pick.

No recollection of the Cowboys having him rated as a 1st rounder.

Not the way the Cowboys do it.

Their draft board is based on talent.

They decide on character/medical/etc. at draft time. McClay said otherwise they double-focus on those issues.

They do remove players from the board if their character concerns are too significant but otherwise they decide at draft time.

They have all of the information on each player in presentation format for the draft.

It makes sense that the person or people making draft picks would want to see a draft board based purely on talent.

Very early on most draft media had Lynch rated higher than Wentz. Some significantly higher.

I thought Wentz was the best of the 3 (Wentz, Goff, Lynch).

I have to admit, my top 5 QBs that year:
1st round: Wentz & Goff
2nd round: Lynch
3rd round: Dak & Jeff Driskel

Guess this shows they can't evaluate QBs. Paxton top 16. Connor Cook top 40 player. My goodness. I thought Wentz and Dak were the best QB's that draft. I have a text still in my phone that wanted to draft dak after Wentz was gone. No1 else.

Clearly they rated Dak higher on leadership and thank God they did.

My memory is they said they rated Collins a first rounder but I could be wrong or it could be an internet amplification.

3rd round: Dak & Jeff Driskel

Yeah, but in fairness no one predicted Dak to be this good. Its like the people that say the Patriots are brilliant for drafting Brady in the 5th. If they were really that brilliant and really knew Brady would become the GOAT, they would have drafted him a lot higher instead of risking losing him to someone else.

i mean a lot of teams probably had Lynch in the 1st round and Cook in the 2nd.

Whoever allowed Michael Thomas to be a 3rd round grade should be fired. I guess they never saw a Ohio St. football game with Michael Thomas on the field.

I have no confidence in our personnel department after seeing Josh Doctson and Corey Coleman ranked so much higher than Michaell Thomas. Again, do they watch college football games. You scouted Elliott and could not tell that Michael Thomas was better than those system made WR from the TCU and Baylor?

He had 2nd and 3rd round grades in many scouting reports. In college, he really did not run good routes.

Clearly many teams likely had 3rd round grades on his as he lasted until midway through the 2nd.

Yes, it's funny that teams get credit for "getting a steal" on players that far outperform their draft position when in reality that team passed on drafting that player at least once and in Brady's case, multiple times.

The Cowboys get praise for drafting Witten in the 3rd but I was really mad when they passed on him in the 2nd round. I wanted them to trade their 2nd and 3rd round picks to move into the late 1st to draft Witten. He was a close to a sure thing as I can remember. I obviously didn't know he would be a HoF type player but I was certain he would be an above average starting TE that could both catch and block.

Having said all of that, there is an art to being able to estimate where players will be available and wait to draft them but teams still shouldn't pass on a slam dunk just because they think the player will be available later.

Somebody post some Tennessee Witten highlights. We can all watch together and eat popcorn.....

Ooooopppphhhhh thats a shame then. Those guys didnt show anything special in college. Dak led a team with bums on it to the #1 rank in the country. I think on that junior team maybe 4 guys went pro. 2 d lineman a lb and safety not one in the first round.

Am I trippin?

How is Conner McGovern’s name on their board in the 4th round that year?

There are two Connor McGoverns. One is from Missouri, and was drafted by the Broncos. The other is from Penn St., and was drafted by the Cowboys.

It appears they had prioritized DT over QB or CB or they would have grabbed Conner Cook or Kendall Fuller @ 67.

Also, if Cook hadn't been taken at 100, they would have snapped him up at 101, then probably Ronald Blair (DE) or double up on DTs with Quinton Jefferson (DT) at 135.

...and I'd love to know what was "illegible" written above Andrew Billings. "Too Fat", "Marinelli Veto" ???

Man, I was flat out in LOVE with Billings. Has he done anything at all ?
