Predicting is a fool's errand

Okay, so there are a few thread's and many posts kicking around the forum trying to predict the rest of this season and some i've seen even trying to pin down our likely play off opponents, should we get there. This needs to stop. We've played 7 of our 16 regular season games. Nobody knows if we win the division, scrape a wild card berth or just bomb out altogether. Equally, nobody knows if other teams do either. My point is, how about we just focus on winning the next game and actually try and enjoy the football? This place was dripping with posters all summer craving the return of meaningful games and now we have them every Sunday, everybody seems stressed and miserable. I don't get the mentality.

Go Cowboys.

Garrett has laid down a pattern. We know what will happen.

In theory yes, it doesn't look like much 'fun' the way it's done on here though. Far too much doom and gloom.
Again, "doom" and "gloom" are part of the fun. Just don't base you life on it.

Like watching a good movie. There are highs and lows, and everything in between.
You just want the good guys to win.....most of the time.

History tends to repeat itself, my friend. The pattern and prediction is already there for this team.

This team will barely make the playoffs (if they even do, I'm predicting a 9-7 or 8-8 season, with the Eagles taking over the division). They may or may not win the wild card game, and JG will blow his last moment on this team by losing the NFC Divisional Round once again (if we even make It that far).

Posters write the darndest things. Fun for one may not be fun for another but it is a mixed bag of fans here. Wanna predict? Have at it and I won't hold it against you if you're wrong. We have a great example of predictions right here before us and Smoltz talked about it last night. The very favored Astros lose the two home games with their two aces and most are putting a fork in them and they sweep in DC to bring it back to HOU only needing 1 win. That was not predicted by anyone I saw. The most optimistic I saw was taking 2 of 3 and sweeping back in HOU.

What would have any of us predicted this time last year? I don't predict any more but not because I've been wrong, I just don't have enough to go on yet. And besides that, going into a game with managed expectations is really a great way to go about it. I just let it unfold in front of me and because I don't have expectations, I don't get bummed if it goes south as it did in NY. I think that's why I like the division games better because there's history there that says forget the record and most of what you know, these games are what any given Sunday's all about.

What are we to do here then?
Too early to talk draft, let's talk FA. And I don't think we got near enough mileage out of the contract talks, we can do that some more.

The challenge is to not make the season about a season but about 16 1 game seasons and let the chips fall where they will about the playoffs. I don;t know what's going to happen Monday night, I am sure as hell not trying to figure out the end of December. The best part of this is that we've got some games coming up that should be what being a fan of the sport is all about. My team does not have to win for me to enjoy the sport. I'll take a good football game over that DAL-PHL mess as I don't watch my team to see them win.

The real sad part is, will that be enough for Jerry to extend Garrett?
My fear is that it will be. Heck a winning season may be enough. :banghead:

As inconsistent as this team is, predicting wins and losses is truly a fool's errand.

I am not sure 8-8 or even less would get that done. He's not there to win or bring a trophy, he's there to make sure the owner is comfortable and happy. He knows he's happy with Garrett. These other names we throw around? Unknown, so why would he take the chance? Booger knows exactly what to expect from Garrett and if he stumbles as he did with that Linehan statement, Booger can count on him to fix that pronto pronto. He is exactly what Booger wants, his perfect HC.

When he extends Garrett, it will not cost him anything but the salary. He will sell out the stadium, he will lead in ratings and revenue. In order to make changes, there must be incentive and he has none. The fans won't stop giving him money and he knows it.

People like to predict. Every see a mock draft...

I don't see much point in predicting games.

They always lose some they should win and win some they were not expected to win.

Amari I dont think WC will have more than 5 losses , and I dont think nfc east will have a wc team.
it is win the div or no playoffs.
3 other teams with only 2 losses are the WC teams now, 4 others with 3 losses, and then phil already has 4 losses,
and dallas 3 losses, so 7 teams ahead of philly, 3 ahead of dallas.
I would PREDICT !!! LOL that wc teams come from the north and or west div's Carolina is 4-2 so they are a possibility too.
