You beat me to it Coach! Well said. Tex Schramm is the man MOST RESPONSIBLE for the successful brand that is the Dallas Cowboys. The strength of the brand Tex built is largely responsible for allowing Jerry Jones to “play GM”, get mediocre results, and somehow keep the fan base. If this brand had not been so strong, Jerry would have probably had to change. Before they were America's Team, Schramm made sure they were Texas' team with the largest radio affiliate network in the NFL and then he moved on to Mexico. He also realized that AZ, NM, AR and OK didn't have their own team so he expanded in that direction as well and back then there were only Sunday games, the worst day of the week for radio revenue and Monday night, when that became a thing wasn't any better, and all they had to do was flip a switch and they had free programming and inventory to sell to their own sponsors. Back then, it was also prestigious to be the Cowboys affiliate and he had an impressive group of stations and he allowed them to use his brand to promote his brand.
Before Booger, there was Schramm and he was even more successful because he didn't build off of what was already built, he carved it out and was really the first in the NFL to recognize that a NFL team could be more than just football, they could be greater than that. When NFL Films dropped that label, he realized he had been more successful than he'd dreamed he would be and while Landry just saw the Dallas Cowboys as a football team, Schramm saw so much more. If there is one man that I would give credit to for the rise of the NFL to America's pastime, it is Schramm. I don't think he was a really nice man but he had a plan and it worked to perfection. He also had an owner that sat back and let him run the business while Schramm stood back and let Landry run the on the field part of it.
Many here, erroneously, give credit to Booger for being a great marketer but he's just taken advantage of what was already there, the way paved by a true visionary within the sport, and they also misuse the word "salesman" because that's not what he is, he's a "pitch man" and there is a big difference between the two.
Tex was a genius. The Cowboys original (and best) GM was HOFer Tex Schramm, who was an early pioneer for the NFL to use Television as a medium to develop a fan base. Schramm was also very innovative in how to best market the game, its field, and its uniforms to maximize TV exposure.
Tex hired probably the two most important people that became cornerstones of “America’s Team”- HOF Head Coach Tom Landry and HOF head of scouting Gil Brandt. Both served in their roles for 29 years. On the strength of those two hires, the acquisition of talent and the outstanding coaching to develop it were established. The Cowboys have never seen seen as long a stretch of success as those men brought.
Schamm’s NFL influence was huge. For example, the use of instant replay and the way football fields are marked today is a direct result of Tex Schramm’s influence and innovation.
The arrows that point to the end zone at each ten yard marker help TV viewers know which side of the field the team has the ball, whether their own end of the field, or the opponent’s. Schramm also brought the red first down marker showing the yard line a team needs to gain to get a first down. (This was before the current yellow line that is superimposed on the screen) And Schramm also introduced the multi-colored striping on each 20 yard line and the 50 yl.
regarding instant replay, Schramm was the first NFL executive to push for its use. While the other NFL executives were traditionalists, Schramm pushed for constantly updating how the game was televised and officiated.
Jerry Jones got into the HOF because of his influence in how teams could make more money and market the league for financial strength. Tex Schramm made the HOF as a true innovator of how football could be viewed and for hiring the cornerstones of the Cowboys longest on-field success.
IMO, Tex Schramm is the guy most responsible for the incredible brand that became known as “America’s Team” Jerry Jones has done some great things to market this team and the league, but he is the beneficiary of what Texas E. Schramm did before him.
bull.Yawn. Fans like to tell themselves this team is special. It's not. Sure it is still a premium "brand" but the Pats have long eclipsed Dallas as America's Team. Green Bay as well.
The Cowboys are like an aging Hollywood Starlet with too much botox.

LMAO, well he did take those death threats seriously when he was dealing with Emmitt. I wouldn't be surprised, if after that first loss, Jimmy didn't secretly send one. That shot of Booger cowering and peeking around in the alcove at the old TS was hilarious.Bingo!
All Jerry does is milk the sweet, endlessly producing teat that is cowboy nation
He should go throw a couple million each year in the graves of Schramm and Landry just for the privilege of extracting endless amounts of cash from what they built plus he should still be paying Jimmy because without his run in the 90's, some crazy fan may have shot Jerry by now

Pats and Packers are not Americas Team, no one is, there is no such thing. Its a completely meaningless phrase.Yawn. Fans like to tell themselves this team is special. It's not. Sure it is still a premium "brand" but the Pats have long eclipsed Dallas as America's Team. Green Bay as well.

no question about the success on the field. How many playoff wins? Since 1996 the Pats have 33. Dallas has 4. Just admit it.
no question about the success on the field.
but as for the title America's Team....we NEVER lost that.
hell....everytime our game is in primetime its a ratings monster.
we have never NOT been......
'MERICA'S TEAM
