Wasn't he another one of those experimental hires that Jerry and Jason are fond of?

I believe his role for years was to prepare play books for coaches on game day.
Yeah he's had different roles here. He's one of the few coaches I consider part of Jason Garrett's "coaching tree".

Exactly. Minny had their gunners in to block the rushers. They were more concerned about the punt getting blocked than our return.
lol, #27 started jogging at the 25 yard line.

Ex Cowboys WR Holley implying that Garrett sold out Austin.

Ex Cowboys WR Crayton has tweeted that Garrett "again" deferring blame onto players...

That’s not actually what Holly said here though.

Why would the STC tell Austin to fair catch the ball in the first place? I can think of only three reasons. 1) The STC was told to do it, 2) Austin was expendable from the Rams because of his mishandling of punts and the STC and the Vikings were aware of that or 3) to save all of the time for the offense and let's face it, the Cowboys do not have great ST.

As far as Garrett handling this, who knows the real story about who told who what and when they were told but with Austin being a veteran PR, there's no way he fair catches that ball on his own.

Garrett using Austin as the scapegoat is the surest way to lose this team. HC's take hits for their players, that's part of their job, keep the heat off their guys.

Garrett bears ultimate responsibility here as he’s the head coach.

He also bears responsibility for replacing Bisacchia with Keith O’Quinn. I understand that Bisacchia left to join Gruden, but surely you can do better than Keith O’Quinn. ST have been abysmal for 2 years.

Having said all that, Garrett said yesterday it wasn’t communicated to Austin properly. I don’t find that throwing Austin under the bus, he’s basically saying the coaches didn’t communicate properly. Whatever that means.

they all should be canned regardless.

this is not true, they were good under wade phillips and Bill Parcells and in rich bisaccia's time here under garrett.

they are just really bad this year.

I TOTALLY TOTALLY disagree! I haven't missed a Cowboys game in 30 years (either on TV or in person) and I can say that the Cowboys special teams (kind of like their overall record the past 25 years) have been mediocre at best!

He also said Austin had a choice when he did not...

just watch the replay from behind Austin, it's all you need to see, there was plenty of room because Minnesota quit running, they would have felt real stupid if Austin fumbled because they quit running.

you said special teams. We have had some excellent kickers and punters and return men since avezzano left.

and umm I haven't missed a game either.

Matt McBriar and Chris Jones have been excellent punters. Bailey was an excellent kicker. Crayton, newman, Harris have all returned punts for TD.

no super bowls but saying the special teams have been bad is not true.

special teams, in many ways, are an indication of the strength of a team's backups. and as you know, coach, we haven't had a lot of good backups.

Preparation has been a recurring issue this year. They’ve fallen behind early in all but two games, often by two or more scores. For whatever reason, they aren’t ready to play at game time.

I tend to take all this stuff with a grain of salt because you never know what the motivations might be behind some of this.

That being said, it's certainly looking like it's *** covering time for Garrett and this staff. We have this Tavon situation. They came out and said Dak had two RPO options on those play calls but when you look at the plays, they don't look like RPOs, they look like designed runs or read options.

I am wondering if we are getting to that point of no return where the team turns on Garrett. Might not be total meltdown like Wade Phillips but enough to have this season go sideways.

McBriar and Jones are decent, Bailey was awesome, Crayton, Newman, Harris were very very average return men and when you say you haven't missed a game meaning how long, just wondering.

well it would certainly be karma if they quit on Garrett since he got the job because of players quitting on Phillips.

Sorry, but thats BS. You are still finding a way to blame JG on this. When this was clearly on the ST coach and then he lied about it on top of it all. This is the type of thing that will turn players against coaches in a heart beat.

If that is the way it played out (the ST Coach said FC but meant "FC unless you have a ton of room") it would also explain Garrett giving a word salad answer about it until he had talked to everyone to find out what the real story is. I think this is one of those stories the beat writers will avoid for a while and a week from now you will see a story about what really happened and how the team worked it out.

This team totally reminds me of the old Phillips teams, a ton of talented underachieving losers! You can't beat the Jets YOU SUCK and don't give me that it was one game c rap or both tackles were out garbage either!
