Damn, great trip down memory lane! I came over from a newspaper chat room...don't remember which. Lurked here in 2004, joined in '05 as CalCbFan. Was a paying member at the Ranch back then too as well as C-F. CZ has been overtaken by sarcasm and wiseguys. Pretty sad in my opinion. I miss the good old days...

I used to be on the Ranch. I only left it a few years ago to come here. There was a mod on that site who apparently had a lot of time on his hands. He'd literally go around one-starring everything I posted (they had a five-star system).

I must've gotten under his skin at some point, but at least he never stalked me in real life.

No idea you are wasted. I was on the ranch with same username for a long time from about 2001 but I just got real fed up of it, a couple guys in particular just ruined it. Been here for a good deal of time. Love the draft zone. That's my favorite time of year.

Makes you wonder if they weren't from Extremeskins.com...and one guy got moderator power...and just started banning everybody. Eventually...It killed the board. That's my theory anyway....

Wow....How can anybody from the old board forget "The Cowboy critic"? ...Now that was some good times.....I used to make a lot of signtures for people on the old board (Silver Star Digest/Ranch Report)....I should try and dig them up sometime. Now that would be like looking @ an old family album.

You're talking about the Usenet forums. I was a lurker (mostly) there through about 2005ish. I emailed one of the regulars from there and asked if there if there were other places to discuss the Cowboys. This was one of the places he suggested. There were two others (I'm guessing The Ranch and Cowboys Zone... are they the same? I could be confused). But, this is the one that stuck/survived.

I got involved with the old Usenet board in 1994. Was my goto for news for nearly a decade. It started to die out because the web is just a better platform for that type of communication. Usenet is essentially dead now. That alt.sports.football.pro.dallas-cowboys group was the first sign I had that it was dying starting about 10-12 years ago.

A couple of months ago, I did a quick search for some people from that group. Found 4-5. One had passed away. There was a lot of comraderie there. Trolls, too, later on. Damn you WebTV!

Yup, that was it. I was on there for years. It was especially fun when Erik Williams used to pummel Reggie White when he played for the Packers. Packers fans used to troll our group. Same with Steelers fans.

He was pretty thin-skinned. And I think he just took his show over to Twitter to get his fill of irate fans saying dumb things on purpose.

Used to be CowboyInVA at the Ranch. Been in MD for 8 years now.

I definitely recall being on a board in the late 90s and early 2000s, and vividly recall the Ellis vs. Moss debates, and also other debates such the fallout from trading for the likes of Joey Galloway and WR Roy Williams.

The boards have been therapeutic at times. One guy I remember from the Ranch is Mexican Marauder -- who used to have a (subjective) objective recap of the Cowboys last game.

True blue was my first experience, with nfl forum, it was nice to be able to talk
with others about cowboys and hear what they say.

My fav thread was the benching of Emmitt for Troy Hambrick (sorry if this was already discussed). Hambrick becomes the starter when Emmitt goes to Arizona. Then as usual, he's even worse as a starter, fans turn on him and want him benched. I myself didn't see the Hambrick fascination.

Ive been here since the beginning and it’s far and away the best forum for Cowboys talk. Back in 2003 there was a schism and a competing board; it’s a shame about the split because the other one had some good posters.

As for me, I’ve been sharing my opinions with other fans since 1994. Here’s one of my posts from one of the original forums back in the day, complaining about Steve Young’s bootlegs lol;

Started on original DMN board. I barely got in and they shut it down. They started a new DMN board everybody used their name Rod for me. There are still people from there on this board, a few anyway, it was insane back then.
Mid nineties maybe?
What a bunch of characters.
The I evoled into SD Cowboy dropped that early 2000s and became the Shameless one.
This is the best board ever.

Didn't see AdamJT3 (Capologist) and DallasEast names in this thread, but they certainly belong on this list.

Thanks to the OP and all for helping me to reel in the years. Sad that we've not sniffed a SB since this started. We pretty much have only celebrated when all the previous coaches we hated (Campo, Gailey, Phillips, Zimmer) have been fired.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we're any closer now than we were many years ago. Maybe we'll have another coach termination to celebrate this year!

ABQ was not "All bout Carter". It was not "Anybody but Quincy", ABQ is short for Albuquerque. For the record, I didn't think Carter was a very good QB. I didn't hate the guy, I just didn't think he was very good.

LOL sorry about the confusion man. I was so blinded with frustration/hate for Carter that anything to do with him triggered me. Haha
