I keep hearing that Dak's greatest attributes aren't measurables. It's his presence, toughness and the "leadership" that he clearly displays

Honest question:

If Dak is such a "leader" and his guys will really behind him and go to the wall for him, then why is that locker room such a mess right now?

Genuinely puzzled. I keep hearing that Dak is the soul of this team and that this is not to be questioned.

What gives? Because it's clear that this team could use some leadership right now and we're hearing Michael Bennett who's been here a month is the guy rallying the troops?

For a team to win with leadership it needs to be present in the locker room from more than just a QB.
Its a culture of excellence that needs to start with the coaching staff.... all of them.... no excuse making, no 'we will learn from this' BS.

It sounds to me like you are upset and want to put this on the QB because thats what fans do when they think on the surface.

We have serious leadership issues. How could any team under this staff not? They all want to win. But no one has shown them how.

Ever heard the expression winning cures all. I don't care how many leaders are on a team if they are losing leadership means nothing. A double you in the win column means more than a leader in the locker room.

Ha. Double you...lol.

Leader Dak ya right and I'm headed to start for the Pats.
The only thing that concerns Dak at this point and is burning a hole in his head is that most coveted contract he so desires.
So far Jerry hasn't taken the bait and by the looks of things, Dak is in for a real turbulent spring with his best-case scenario being the tag and the worst being a Fa looking for a massive pay-day.
As I predicted once we start playing some real teams Dak will come crashing down to Earth and he has.
The sooner the Boys cut ties with this imposter and wannabee Franchise QB the better as he lacks most of all the talents to lead the Star to new glories.

I honestly think Dak is a good leader. But he can’t do it all himself in that regard.

Leadership comes from
The top down. Hard to blame the QB when the owner/GM and the head coach don’t do their part.

same happened to Romo. People questioned his leadership. When the leadership void was in the coaching staff.

He’s a leader, but he’s not an ideal one. He has the tangibles and the mind to be one, but he’s too soft. He has the mindset to be one, but he refuses to take that step to be a legit, tough, hard on them leader and I think it’s because A.) That’s what he’s been taught since he’s entered the Cowboys facility and B.) He’s being influenced by his coach and environment.

Look at the other players. They are the exact same way. They act soft. They accept being mocked, bullied, punked, and embarrassed every week. It can’t be helped until this environment is put to an end. He’s way too much of a wussy and wants to please JJ and the NFL for being a model leader. His focus is in the wrong place. A NFL player is supposed to be Tough. Gritty. Outspoken. Dak is not that, unfortunately. I don’t think he’ll ever be, either. I love Dak, but I have come down to the conclusion that he’s always going to be that “Everything is all happiness, sunshine, and rainbows” type guy when it things really aren’t going that well. It’s actually a bad look on him by doing that. A lot of people are calling him out for it....

Dak has looked selfish at times this season. His contract is weighing on him and he’s playing like it. I’d sorta like to see him move on this offseason but Jerry will overpay to keep him.

Sadly, I agree. Football is a business though. His RB and DE did the same this offseason, so I guess he thinks he can do the same. Kind of sad that football has taken this turn tho. Only Dallas has had this problem with players holding out and doing selfish things for money...

That's why the Cowboys stick to this "Build through the draft" philosophy because they can bring in rookies and mold them to fit their country club culture. It's like brainwashing, they know they can control these players. They rarely go outside of the franchise via signing veteran free agents or trades because they know other teams are run properly and having too many outside players can come in and "corrupt" these Cowboys by influencing them on how things are really done.

I’m not a Dak supporter and I make no bones about that

But that said I’m asking an honest question.

If this guy is such a leader and his teammates rally around him so much then why is this team in such disarray? Of all the problems this team has from a strategic and game planning perspective (and I don’t argue you on that—our staff is not sharp from a preparation and in game adjustment standpoint), from what Daks backers say team leadership shouldn’t be one of them

Why is Michael Bennett the one giving the locker room pep talks?

Michael Bennett has been in other places, where winning occurs. Where practice matters. Where preparation and football comes first. Not selling sunglasses, or marketing, or sponsorships, or whatever other circus is distracting from the task at hand.

I’m sure he’s trying to impart some of that. This thing is too far gone, for it to likely matter. It’s starts at the very top, and ain’t getting fixed any time soon.

Glad you mentioned his time in NE

If this same situation transpired in NE, any chance it’s Bennett giving that speech instead of Brady?

We both know better.....

Bennett giving a pep talk does not mean Dak is not a leader. It only means Bennett has been around championships and has a different perspective than some of these guys who have only known the Garrett way. It’s pretty damning of this coaching staff...all of them.....that Bennett feels so compelled to stand up and do something.
I’m sure Bennett would do this in Seattle....that doesn’t mean Russell Wilson isn’t a leader.
An NFL locker room has about 60 men all from different backgrounds, different past experiences. Having 1 guy speak up doesn’t mean he is the only one to have ever spoken up.

Ya, what's up with that dude just joined last week?
That leader talk is mostly from Dak homer's here on CZ beyond that all I see is a dude who knows he's hit the jackpot through sheer luck and now wants to take the lump sum( New Contract) instead of installments!
Hey Zeke and the offense from what I'm seeing out there have given up on carrying Dak to greatness and Dak can't do it on his own.
Next, please!

I don’t necessarily agree with all of that but that’s a reasonable take

Best counter reply so far
