I do not understand the players in pro sports who are willing to risk their livelihoods and the privilege of playing a professional sport for a shyteload of money just to smoke a little pot. Its not a question of whether its legal, although that plays into it, or if the NFL Is behind the times for not allowing it. Its in the rules and its not such a hard rule to follow, is it? There are dietary supplements that are legal to sell that are banned in the NFL too. These guys play football professionally for a few years and then its over. How little discipline does a player have if he cannot refrain from drugs or alcohol for a few years while he plays football for millions of dollars? Sorry, I cannot and will not defend this kind of stupidity.
Also, the NFL has every right to ban smoking pot even in states where its legal. The NFL knows they are dealing with young kids, many of whom came from poverty to suddenly earning millions of dollars for playing a sport a few months out of the year. These kids are often immature, have lots of free time and lots of money for the first time in their young lives. Establishing rules to keep these kids from screwing up their lives is not a bad thing. Expecting them to be responsible for themselves is not a bad thing. And punishing them for not following the rules is not a bad thing.
Antuan Woods hurt himself and his team with his stupid behavior. I don't know if the NFL will fine him, suspend him or both but there should be consequences. Let's not forget what happened to the 1990s Cowboys when discipline was lost.
