There was a John Wayne film where he was with the cavalry dealing with the Indians. He was sent to strike a deal with the Chief to make peace. Evidently the cavalry had pushed them too far.
John Wayne's name in this film is Nathan. However the Chief called him Naton. Pronounced Nat Ton.
When John Wayne went back to the chief to make this peace the Chief said, "Too late, Nay Ton."
My dad used to say that to me when I was supposed to do something like cut the grass, but went and played baseball with my friends. Too Late Nay Ton.
Never understood it until a few years ago when I saw that film.
After reading all the comments by Garrett, all it makes me think of is, "Too late, Nay Ton."
Random, obscure reference.
