Why did Dallas draft Leighton Vander Esch?

True, Garret would have him sitting in a pocket taking 3 and 5 step drops..........thus missing out on what he does best.

Just like Dak. Go back and watch his college days. It was quick reads and they utilized what he could do with his legs. They made the defense respect what he could do on any given snap. It was no fluke that Miss St became a national championship contender in his years there. We have made him into a drop pass passer and that is not what he is. Romo was best when he improvised.

Who cares? They drafted him. He's a Cowboy now. Maybe let's root for him to remain healthy and productive as long as possible instead of rueing the day the Cowboys took him. Whether you agreed with it or not, that pick isn't remotely the reason this defense sucks.

A more appropriate question might be why did Dallas sign Monte Kiffin way past his prime, Marinelli way past his prime, Richards off being fired? Why did they play Byron Jones at safety when he was clearly a corner and sit Jourdan Lewis when he's so obviously better than Brown?
Who cares? They did. Why can't you just be happy? (Back at ya!!!)

BTW, I found your post hilarious!!!! Ragging on others for what they desire to complain about, and then complaining!!!!!!!!!!! Absolutely priceless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Uh, link.

Who said he has spinal stenosis? That has never been confirmed, unless I'm missing something.
You are missing something. This was confirmed 2 weeks ago when he first came out of game.

Leighton Vander Esch has spinal stenosis. Had it his whole life.

That's the same condition that ended Michael Irvin's career. And he wasn't a head-butting middle linebacker.

This condition was why many NFL teams took Vander Esch off their board before the 2018 draft. He was deemed too risky to take early in the draft.

Apparently dating back to high school and college, he's had continuous issues with neck injuries just like he's going through now. I wonder if his poor play is partly because he's mentally trying to protect his neck at all times.

Why would you draft a linebacker with a severe neck injury risk in the first round? What are we doing early in these otherwise good drafts in recent years?

We could already be looking at the end of his career sooner rather than later. He could end up in the same scrap heap as Randy Gregory, Taco Charlton, and Trysten Hill in the end.

GM Jerry 101 always outsmarting the rest of the field baby!!:omg:

Plus, Dallas has actually drafted better than the vast majority of the league over the last 6-7 years

The anomaly, for me, in the LVE draft was seeing a transformational player like Derwin James drop all the way down to 17 and us not try hard to trade up to get him. 3 trades took place right ahead of him.

Hind site.

Also, that other stuff is very old news too, but for trading won in the 2004 draft, Dallas got Julius Jones AND a 2005 1st round pick. Not just Julius Jones.
With that pick, Bill Parcells selected Marcus Spears instead of Aaron Rodgers
Just sayin
The year we chose Roy Williams, we could have traded down, collected more picks and selected Ed Reed...Imagine him next Woody!!

Go ahead and link it.
On November 24th I watched and listened to Shefter and Mort report on ESPN of his 'cervical spinal stenosis' that would likely keep him out for the rest of the year contrary to what DC was saying or hoping for. No link just reported and then confirmed by numerous posts on here since then. They mentioned it was "known" at the time of the combine.

We need him badly.

Every team has a long list of wishful hind-site redos
Any team that passed on Reed made a mistake
Moss too
Rodgers too
Russ Wilson too
Etc
Basically the whole league

Because if we had another GM he wouldn't take the risks Jerry does for fear of being fired. Besides 1st round O-line I don't see where this team has drafted well recently. This FO has outsmarted all others , just look how talented this roster is from top to bottom.
If we'd been drafting so well, as the Homers like to tell us, then we would not be 6-7.

Rumor was the extra pick allowed for Dallas to select Ware at #11. Parcells was supposedly set on Marcus Spears but was then convinced by others(and JJ) that he could be there at #20, but Ware would of been long gone by #20.

Cowboys seem to be pretty on it when it comes to this stuff. People said Ronald Leary and Ajayi wouldn’t last long......
