Is Maliek Collins a Strength or Weakness for the Cowboys?

Do you remember when Maliek Collins was supposedly having a monster training camp
to impress enough for many people into thinking this was going to be his break out year, if he somehow managed to stay healthy ?

Well, surprisingly the usually injured prone Maliek Collins has actually managed to stay healthy for
once and first time in his career here with the Cowboys, no missed games as a starter, in what is also his contract year as well.

But has Maliek been a difference maker in the interior for this defense this year in 2019?
Has he been a strength for this team or a part of the weakness for this team ?

Is a guy that we should prioritize re-signing in the off season ? (as he is due to be a UFA.)

Finally healthy and not suffering the usual leg and foot injury issues that has plagued and limited him
in the past, what has happened to where he's STILL just a so-so player ?

He isn't a difference maker or potential pro bowl player. But he is solid enough to offer a 2nd contract to because it shouldn't cost much to keep him. Would love to see what happens if he had a great DC working with him.

Preseason hype. Collins is a 3rd round pick and plays like one. He is not a bad player. He makes plays every now and then but he is not worthy of the nonsense we heard out of Dallas about him in training camp.

He and Woods form a weakness in the Cowboys DL.

hmm, that's not how I would prefer to edit the title but what the hay, ...

for the record, I thought Maliek was more of a rotation type vs being a full time starter, coming off the bench and nickel rush situations where he could be fresher and
could exert more energy and strength. I think he's just an average player and there's no need to extend long term contracts to just average players.
I think hes' one of several due free agents here that will be moving on to greener$ pastures

Time will tell if draftee Trysten Hill could eventually be a more suitable replacement, but all indications next year may not be time for him, with such very limited game experience.
For starters scrap the DL coaching staff and renew with a more qualified one

This.

He would probably be more effective coming off the bench. He is a decent starter, but not the difference maker this scheme requires. Let him walk.

He has his moments where he is a monster inside. But those moments arent consistent enough. I think he like the rest of this DL have been put in posistions where theyre getting taken out of plays because of the scheme tendencies that opposing teams know. And theres part of the players just making stupid penalties and taking bad angles.

But just like the video i posted about Awuzie, these defensive coaches are so predictable and opposing teams can see their tendency by simply watching the way they line up. Its robotic.

I think Collins is a good player. But, its a talent thing. He's a big man who plays well in spurts, who would be a great rotational 3-tech. We need to put more talent into our front 7. Look at what San. Fran. has done with their front 7 over the last few years (They have built their D-line. like we built our O-line) and they are a wrecking crew.
Better draft talent, better scheme. If he is affordable, I would keep Collins and build around him. Put a more talented 1-tech next to him, draft Kinlaw with our first pick, and build that front line.
Same crap I've been saying for about 8 years ….

He's just a guy. Not a playmaker, not a liability.

If Trysten Hill becomes the player the Cowboys hope he can be (insert your jokes here), Dallas won't miss Collins next year.

Maliek is a weakness vs. the run and inconsistent as a pass rusher. Sometimes good, sometimes not. Overall, he's nothing special. That's it.

quick--- maybe we could chalk it up with all the other dysfunction we are seeing from a team that was suppose to be so much better?......it all both amazes and puzzles me at the same time....how does a supposed great team plummet like this?.....what ever got to the cowboys got to Malik Collins too...very strange from my view

He's a good rotational player. Can't hold up playing more than 30 snaps or so.
