It's got sufficient talent to win the division and, with enough breaks, make some noise in January. But then so do a dozen or so other teams who won't be playing next month. What this roster is not is this loaded collection of talent some purport it to be.
Part of any business is selling. Few do it better than this family and I have to give them credit for it. It's just a shame the sales culture in Frisco is what drives the brand, not football excellence. It wasn't always so. I mean, the organization always leveraged brand equity, but it was at one time very much about the product on the field.
How is this roster different in that regard than the past two decades?
Jerry was talking Super Bowl during three consecutive 5-11 seasons under Campo.
Yep. I seem to recall the week prior to Quincy Carter's first start in 2001. We were heading into the opener vs. Tampa, one of the top NFC contenders at the time. Everyone knew Dallas was likely a cellar dweller again, but your favorite narcissist was swearing to anyone who would listen that this team was winning ten games. Mind you, this was Campo leading the charge with a ridiculously bad roster and this man was peddling that.
I don't know if that was just blind optimism (Jerry? Noooo!), delusion (Never!), or the offloading of snake oil.
