Is that really an accurate statement? That coaches coming directly from college have a lower success rate than NFL coordinators? I mean there have been some notable failures like Spurrier, Chip Kelly, even Lou Holtz was back in the day realized the NFL wasn't for him and bolted................. but there were some pretty big successes as well such as Jimmy Johnson, Tom Coughlin...... Dennis Green had decent success in Minnesota after leaving Stanford. Mariucci had decent success with the 49ers after Cal. And then if you want to back further, there is Bill Walsh.

There have also been a CRAP TON of NFL coordinators who have fallen on their faces as well......... shoot, NE spits out coordinators that suck as HCs at an impressive rate - McDaniel, Crennel, Weis, etc.

It would be stupid for Jerry to close off college coaches because he thinks they fail at a higher rate than NFL coordinators.

He has got to know his way isn't working.... Right?

his words most of the time don’t seem to bely it, but his actions as of late seem to. The teams been pretty aggressive this year with personnel and contracts etc. exploring trades and all that. Dude wants to win and hopefully that includes some looking in the mirror

Uh... what do we take from this? That Jerry remains senile? He contradicts himself every week. This is just another example. Provides compliments to Riley and Rhule, then proceeds to provide a stat for failing college coaches. What? Watch. Jerry is going to bring in Rivera or McCarthy .

For the first year, of course the percentages are going to be low because it's going to take a college coach twice as long to get acclimated because not only does he have to get acclimated to the team but the college coach would also have to get acclimated to the NFL rules... So I would expect the new college coach (never having NFL experience) to be acclimated to both within the first 4 games (at the very most). Shouldn't take that long but I'm giving benefit of the doubt just to play devil's advocate.

Sounds like there's more to what Jerry is thinking than what he's putting out there...

Everyone will ramble off guys like Kelly and Spurrier as proof Jerry is right but why don't some of you go down the list of coordinators that have failed?

The list is long and impressive.

Rhule coached under Coughlin, he has been in the NFL and saw it done at the highest level under a hall of fame coach.

Rhule makes all the sense in the world but he won't be treated as an equal by Jerry and he knows that. He is going to end up in NY and they are going to have a great coach going forward.

The bit about coordinator is interesting. Greg Roman?
Look at what Roman has done with Kap and with Lamar...Imagine what he could do with our weapons....He's someone I would at least interview...The dude can coach up and offense. Dak isn't Lamar ...but he is light years better than Kap.

how many frigging times a week does he go on that damned show?

More importantly, WHY does anyone listen??

Seriously, turn the damn dial people and quit giving him a platform for his nonsense

He would curl up in a ball and cry if people quit paying attention to him and it wouldn't cost fans anything to do this

Well Cowboys Nation is well aware he wasn't commenting on Garrett & Moore.
I wonder how much of that was him promoting AT&T Stadium rather hinting about possible future coaches ... :D :D

twice, monday and friday and steve talks on tuesday.

The fan jokes all the time how national writers are hanging on Jerry's every word and they text them looking for soundbites all the time. The fan would lose its audience which apparently is growing without the jerry interviews.

Interesting coming from the guy who won 3 rings from a team that was orchestrated and built from a college coach...

But yeah, let's focus on the handful of exceptions rather than the more common outcome.

That's how smart people make decisions, right?
