I don't want anyone Jerry wants. Cause he will pick a guy he can influence in due time. Just like the parcells hire, needed a name to sell a stadium, once he got that, her comes TO. Until old Jer gets out of the lime light and washes his hands of football operations, he can hire Bill Belichek and it won't solve the problem with the franchise.

Not to worry Jerry won't give us the coach we want and we will all be underwhelmed as usual...Too bad we can't fire the owner/Gm!! That's always been the problem

A retread like Rivera.

I'm willing to suffer a learning curve with a new guy, so long as they bring the Cowboys into the 21st century with their style of play.

To be honest, I'm really bored by this team and franchise. I want a coach who will make it exciting to watch the Cowboys again--whether that's on offense or defense.

Fans need to realize the Riley's & Urban's of college football have absolutely NO experience in the NFL. I like to see an experienced college coach as Nick Saban, Jim Harbaugh, Lovie Smith, or Les Miles take over. College coaches with NFL experience all fall into this category.

All of these coaches above have been in the NFL at some level. Les Miles was a tight ends coach for our Cowboys from 1998-2000, so I don’t just mean head coaches.

These coaches are the ones many name when the question of successful college coaches in the NFL is answered. Pete Carroll is usually the name thrown around for this type of coach. They have been in the NFL, went to college, and came back to take a team in the NFL again.

There are not a ton of these, but they can be found here and there. Chip Kelly anyone? The way the Egals are playing after winning a SB not so long ago, I'd swear he's back as their HC again. :lmao:

I see a lot of people talking about who they want to see replace JG and throwing names out there. I’m curious out of names that have been thrown out who do you not want to see as the head coach next season?

I got two names I don’t want to see first is Jeff Fisher and the other is Mike McCarthy.

  1. Jason Garrett. Getting rid of him will be an upgrade in itself
  2. Mike McCarthy. Guy underachieved witha Hall of Fame quarterback and seldom could find a defensive coordinator to figure out that side of the ball for him.
  3. Jeff Fisher. Please tell me he's done coaching.
  4. John Fox. Ditto.
  5. Mike Holmgren. Double ditto.

As long as Garrett is gone, I can handle anyone for a few seasons. If Jerry goes with a retread HC, then I prefer a defensive coach like Rivera.

@stasheroo has a good list above of whom I don’t want to see here.

I disagree, Ron Rivera would be a massive upgrade over the tool we currently have acting as coach.

I agree that Rivera would be a massive upgrade to JG, he would also be a massive upgrade RM, just by bringing in a 21st-century defense.

My only fear is that Jerry would just see him as another Wade. That he would not cede to Rivera the control he needs to take us to the next level.

Would Meyer or Riley get that control? Maybe. They both have more leverage than Rivera, as he was just fired from his last job. Meyer could have his pick of college gigs and Riley already has one of the best gigs in football, so they could argue for more control the way BP did.

I want a coach that has a little old school mentality( cracks the whip when needed, attention to details, involved totally with all aspects of the team and demands perfection). Am I asking for much or are they all dead. I want a Jimmy Johnson coach!

No one on the current staff. I don't want anyone on the current staff to even be here at all. Except Kitna.
Jerry
Rowdy
Same as mentioned above. Holmgren, McCarthy, Fisher.
I will add another one in Cowher.

Not sure about Rivera, but would not complain, at least not right now, I need to think about it.

I am ok with Meyer or possibly Riley, bit he is way down the list. Same for Rhule, not high on him.
Les Miles is an interesting name as he coached here before as an assistant. No to Harbaugh or Saben.

I don't really care as long as they are aggressive in all three phases of the game. Play to win get rid of this play not to lose mentality.
