I could research this but I thought I would just ask the questions instead.

The questions are in regards to making it to the Super Bowl even if they didn't win.

Question #1:

How many assistant coaches that were promoted to Head Coach of the same team made it to the Super Bowl (Since 1980).

Not assistants that departed and then returned as HC. Just assistants directly promoted to HC.

George Seifert comes to mind.

Question #2:
When looking at team/HC combos and the 1st time that combo got to the Super Bowl, how often was that HC hired as an up and coming coach vs a recycled NFL Head Coach vs College Head Coach?

To clarify:
Jimmy: College HC

Belichick: Technically a recycled NFL HC; although that Cleveland situation was more on the owner than Belichick (They fired him after moving to Baltimore).

Sean McVay and Sean Payton: Up and coming types when hired by Rams/Saints.

Tom Coughlin: SB success as 2nd time NFL HC.

Pete Carroll: Both NFL and College HC before SB success with Seahawks.

Unless Jerry changes there's only one type for Dallas and that's a non coach that were getting rid of..........our only hope is for Jerry to take his last breath.

"Both NFL and college HC before SB success"
You forgot Johnson & Switzer when mentioning Carroll. Incidentally, ALL 3 have won college championships as well.

They don't need a coach with championships, they need a coach that's experienced in the NFL.

Myer certainly isn't but Saban, McCarthy & Harbaugh are.

Raiders had 2 asst promoted to HC who won Super Bowls for them...John Madden and Tom Flores...Bill Callahan was promoted from OL to HC and took them to a SB but lost.

Giants promoted Parcells from DC to HC...won 2 Super Bowls.

49ers promoted George Seifert from DC to HC and won 2 SBs.

Switzer was not an NFL HC with another team before winning a Super Bowl.

Jimmy didn't win an SB in Miami at which point he had been both prior to being hired.

Pete Carroll was the Jets HC then an HC in college then the HC of the Seahawks where he won a Super Bowl.

Good point on Callahan.

Madden/Flores were hired before 1980 but good to point them out anyway.

Seifert is the one I had mentioned.

Carroll was also the HC of the Patriots before moving on to USC.

The Cowboys have to avoid becoming the Al Davis Raiders, looking for the next great "young coach". Kiffin, Allen, Cable, etc. They need to recycle a Head Coach with a proven track record of success on this level. One who is innovative to the current times and will adjust his scheme with the talent he has on the roster. This coach needs to not only be allowed to hire his own staff and be able to recruit top assistants.

One Coach who fits this criteria, is the Michigan Coach, Jim Harbaugh. He was a very successful Head Coach with the 49ers, was a play away from winning the Super Bowl against the Ravens. His staff consisted of Greg Roman as his OC and Vic Fangio as his DC. Both coaches have had tremendous success since on this level.

Harbaugh is my second choice to Meyer. If I have to have a second. There’s no third.

Tell him all the hookers who partied on his bus over the years are filing paternity suits. That might speeds things up a bit.

Nope, just need to get rid of Clapper and get a coach like Rivea, Meyers or McDaniels.
