But a 2-3 playoff record for a career spanning 10 seasons is pitiful at best.

Break it down. In games against opponents with a winning record he has won (if I remember correctly) less than 40% of the time. He is also 2-3 in the playoffs. It does no good to beat up on losing teams and then lose in the playoffs, especially if you only make the playoffs 30% of the time.

It's a solid record, but many would say it should be much better....and especially in the post season.

John Cooper won 111 of 158 games at Ohio State in the 80s/90s. He produced quite a few All Americans. We were glad to see him fired.

Why? He couldn't win bowl games and couldn't beat Michigan. He never won an outright conference title much less a national championship.

To me, it's always been about what type of return a coach is able to extract with a given talent level. A coach who leads a 13 win type roster to 10-6 is doing a poor job. A coach who leads a 5 win type roster to 8-8 has done a great job. The 10-6 record is not inherently better than the 8-8 record as far as the coach's abilities are concerned.

Jason Garrett has enjoyed very good to elite QB play throughout his entire tenure (top 5 QB rating from 2010 to now). All of the other coaches that got similar elite QB play have much more success to hang their hats on than JG. Aside from QB, we've mostly had very talented rosters as well. JG has gotten very little out of the talented rosters this team has had (especially from 2014-2019).

its very good stats for the RS and the Narrative that Garett sux is overblown, He does not suck..hes above average as a record goes..

however its his inability to win the big games and outcoach and in game adjustments when the biggest moments in biggest games come up is where he falls short..its time for a change

That's a tough question just because most coaches who average just under 9 wins/season aren't given a decade to figure it out.

If you want a very close comparison, how about Wade Phillips? 146 games with a 82-64 record. He would have crossed 150 games, but he was fired for not getting it done
