Results matter. Good coaches get fired all the time.

He has had 10 years and we have nothing to really show for it. We are the premier coaching job in sports— and we need a HC that can get the job done or has a proven track record (Parcells)

How much someone is liked or respected has some value— but at some point, there is either fruit on the tree or there isn’t.

This should Garrett’s last chance to produce a harvest here in Big D. But we have JJ at the helm, so the eternal optimist may continue to try and strike oil out of a dry well

LOL. This is the exact garbage we were sold 10 years ago -- actually close to 14 years ago when he became OC -- that he's so smart and so organized and most of all, such a great speaker.

Let him go become president of Toastmasters and hire someone who is actually good at coaching football. Because they are absolutely *not* the same thing.

I’m not sure what to make if this quote. I mean, it says exactly what I’ve said all along on this topic, but that would mean Trent Dilfer is a vile disgusting homer who needs to get help and who only says the things he says for attention and because he’s too stubborn to budge from his agenda.

But the thing is, I like Trent. It seems kind of juvenile to call him all those names when he’s just relating the truth to people who don’t hear it. I’m really torn.

Just take him for what he is, one of the worst QBs to ever win a SB.

Seriously, Garrett might be a good coach if allowed to run a team without interference. There's no might be about him being a coach who can lead a team to a SB under the Jones'. They've done everything in their power to make him look foolish. It's time to try someone else who might be able to raise the team above the Jones idiot circus.

Actually he’s best suited for HC. His number one trait is communication and leadership which is most important role of HC rather than coordinator.

I think he honestly could succeed his mentor Saban at Alabama and crush it. His leadership would translate most to the college level. Plus he’s actually really smart at X’s and O’s. He just chooses to be risk adverse which can cost you in big games.

He can crush at Alabama because his crappy do what we do approach will work if your team's talent level is 10 times better than the opposition. I think his scamming politician skills could help him recruit young impressionable players.

Thats the loyalty of the former scrub QB club...

I think we should upgrade Garrett but what do you think is more likely: a national sportscaster with ties around the league is lying to prop up another QB or Cowboys fans with no inside access are emotionally biased because of unrealized expectations?

Dilfer is saying that he is respected around the league for being a leader. There was nothing said about his intelligence or speaking ability.

Nice strawman though.

The problem is that it’s highly unlikely anyone can in the disfunction that is Jerry Jones Cowboys.
Correct and what the rest of the league sees probably better than some of our own Cowboy fans.

And why I’ve supported Garrett all of these years is he’s coexisted in this dysfunctional situation more than the previous HC’s.

And has consistently been competitive despite all of the distractions. Which the toxic atmosphere since the Patriot game I thought was final stage but he’s proved again he can overcome . Amazing ...

But we still have fans who expect championships despite all of the toxic atmosphere and dysfunction Jerry Ball creates which is ridiculous. Jason appears the one HC and or Puppet who can somehow bring us to the brink of our goals which are by most experts and analysts unobtainable with Jerry this era.

All leaders have an expiration date regardless of their ability.

Vince Lombardi stepped down as HC of the Packers after the 1967 season after being HC there nine seasons. He knew his expiration date had come before others made him see it.

Jerry was on the radio talking about what a great speaker Garrett is, and Jerry referenced that Garrett spoke at the owners meeting and the owners were captivated by his speech.

I have no doubt Garrett will be scooped up immediately after his contract expires.
Yes, scooped up by an east coast college team. The only respect he has is from how long he’s put up with the JJ clan.

I don't think people should be surprised that Garrett is well liked and respected around league circles. He comes off as a likable guy, he interacts well with people, he's not a crap head or a weirdo like, say a Chip Kelly. So when Dilfer says a lot of people around the league like him, that shouldn't be shocking to anyone.

The question, however, is whether or not he is a really good HC. I would wager a hefty sum that there are quite a few owners/GMs out there that would say, yeah Garrett is a really nice and respectable guy, but nah, I wouldn't want him coaching my team.

Actually he’s best suited for HC. His number one trait is communication

Then explain why he failed to "communicate" with the special teams coach that we should probably more the return men up on kickoffs during the NE game. Explain why he failed to "communicate" with the same coach and/or player what he wanted on the infamous punt return. Explain why he fails to "communicate" with the OC and DC during the games (he admitted they talk very little during the games).

If it is the job of the HC to "coach the coaches", then the HC is to blame if the coordinators do not have the players ready to play and are not constantly putting the players in the best position to be successful.

I think Garrett makes a great CEO, maybe a great GM. I don't think he is creative enough on the offensive side and knows enough on the defensive side.

And he is not a good game manager or has a feel for the game..

because he probably didn't fail to communicate, he let the young SP. tms coach off the hook.

The HC of the Dallas Cowboys is a unique position like none other in the NFL all because of our dysfunctional ownership.

We really can’t use the same measurements as we’d normally adhere to across the league.

We have to think outside the box in who and what can best coexist with Jerry Ball. And as I’ve been arguing for almost 10 years now Ive seen no other that has done as well attempting to overcome the toxic atmosphere.

We haven’t reached our ultimate goals but that of course would be under the assumption they are obtainable in this environment which notables like Troy recently said doesn’t believe is likely.
