Jimmy Johnson deserves the amount of respect Jason Garrett is getting from Jerry Jones

Well Johnson certainly accomplished a lot more. Not even a debate.

Interesting how Jerry has no trouble canning Super Bowl winning coaches but can't bear to dump failures
Jimmy quit

I'm a fan, but he really wasn't fired

Johnson- Maximized talent and arguably gave the boys its best run in franchise history

Garrett-Misused, mismanaged talent and wasted an entire decade with rosters that were arguably just as good the 90s

I know today is supposed to be an emotional day for the Joneses but it’s a microcosm of what’s wrong with the Dallas Cowboys
I agree- it's like Jerry want to throw him a parade and give him the key to the city. Just put a foot too his a** and tell him to get the he** on

I know what you are getting at and many Cowboys fans are ignorant of history on this one (ignorant not meant in any sort of pejorative or insulting fashion, but that they literally don't know the facts of how that deal went down)

Fact is--Bum Bright took less money from Jerry when selling the team than Bright could have gotten from other perspective buyers, because Jerry was the only guy who wanted to start fresh with a new coach.

Bright wanted Landry fired. Bright sold to Jerry for less because Jerry was the only guy who said he would do so.
it was one of the central deciding factors in the sale of the Cowboys. Landry's dismissal was as much or more Bum Bright's call, as it was Jerry's.

And I'm not "defending" Jerry as I"m sure you aren't. It's just that this narrative of how Coach Landry ended up being relieved of his duties is often greatly misunderstood. Jerry was a factor in that process but not the sole factor, by any means.

I know the history which is why I asked rnr_honeybadger. Far too many blame Jerry for Landry being fired and either forget, choose not to acknowledge or have no idea that Landry was going to be fired regardless.

I agree with some...what was Jimmy without Jerry.

A LAUGHING stock...that's what. Miami wasn't that bad when Jimmy took it...in fact WAY better than when he took the Cowboys. It was Jerry that allowed Jimmy to get whatever he needed.

It's my opinion both the success AND failure are shared.....those guys made a good team...but BOTH couldn't get over themselves. Like Aersosmith's Tyler and Perry..they should have broken up AND got back together.

I agree it should have been handled better. But have you considered it could have been handled much worse if Bright let Landry go?

Sure it could have been handled a whole lot worse and it could have been handled better. Surely that isn't an excuse on how it was handled? The man was a legend who literally helped build this franchise from NOTHING. A little class would have gone a long way.

This is a clear sign of how mixed up this organization is. Even if JJ already blew up the bridge with Jimmy, at a minimum he should have been in the Ring of Honor by now.

He did prove Jerry tight though---that at least on a one year basis, anyone could coach that team to a Super Bowl.
After that...well...zip for 25 years

He was right in that even we could have coached that bunch to a SB.

and when the boss offers a toast...and you refuse to honor that toast....well....whatever happens....happens.
they should've worked it out.
but return or ackowledge the boss' toast.

Love Jimmy J, but he fired his own butt out of town. Never won anything in the pros without Jerry btw.

That’s because Jimmy hurt little Jerruh’s feelings. He didn’t let Jerrah have the credit he didn’t deserve.
