Jimmy Johnson deserves the amount of respect Jason Garrett is getting from Jerry Jones

Johnson- Maximized talent and arguably gave the boys its best run in franchise history

Garrett-Misused, mismanaged talent and wasted an entire decade with rosters that were arguably just as good the 90s

I know today is supposed to be an emotional day for the Joneses but it’s a microcosm of what’s wrong with the Dallas Cowboys
I know it just started but this is the post of the year :starspin:

Jerry and Jimmy were never close they weren’t friends. People assumed they were friends because they went to college together. Jerry is close with Garrett and his family. Garrett still wants to coach the Cowboys while Jimmy wanted out. This is a totally different situation.

The dynamic is much different between Jerry and the two men. Jerry thinks he is Garrett's creator. Jerry knows Jimmy fully owns his 3 three rings.

Actually he doesn't. This isn't about wins or loses, or anything football related. Jerry has a special relationship with Garrett for much longer than Johnson. Jerry doesn't run the football operation as a cut throat manager, that would be better than the sentimental grandpa we get stuck with.

Jimmy was to blame for Jimmy leaving , Jimmy was looking around , Jimmy was worse in the NFL without Jerry then Jerry as Bern without Jimmy.

Jimmy was given Mike and Troy but wanted Walsh over Troy he wasted a first round pick through supplement draft on Steve Walsh when he had Troy Aikman.

Jimmy wanted James Francis over Emmitt Smith.
More than just looking around. He was actively trying to get the Jacksonville job.

Not arrogant at all
That's why I out the disclaimer in there. Do me a favor and look up the definition of ignorant, consistent with the manner in which I used it.

As I said, not pejorative or insulting.
It literally means most people do not know the facts of how the deal went down. I'm guessing you may not have previously been aware of Mr Bright's conditions of sale, given your reaction where you flat out stated "who cares" about why it happened. I'd say the why is at least as, if not more, important than the how. You may disagree and that's fine.

If you were offended or considered that an arrogant comment, my apologies. But only for the misunderstanding. It was proper application of a word that is often used in insulting fashion, but wasn't in this case.
All correct. And I was neither offended or other wise taken back. You get an A+ for grammar...hooya my POINT being, its not about all the fluff of the history, what it is about, was how JJ went about firing one of the cowboys greatest and long lived head coaches...the manner so to speak. Consider today, after 10 seasons of total garbage from his clapping carrot and yet JJ just can't pick up the phone in the same manner as he did to Tom and fire him from his office, no, he continues to muse over his little string puppet to the extent that fans are now scratching our heads over what's the hold up? JJ was all to happy to show what a grand executive he is by firing Tom like some homeless person camped out in HIS newly purchased stadium. THAT is my point at your post.

there are those who don't like jimmy, and those who think he was a great coach. I am among the latter. the easiest way to put his greatness in perspective is to consider what the cowboys became in his 5 years as head coach, and what they've been in the 25 years since he left. (for whatever reason it was he left).

And there's absolutely some validity to what you are saying

Key difference is, firing JG means Jerry has to acknowledge he made a mistake by hiring him. That's why he's dragging his feet. Not because of loyalty to Garrett imo

Doesn't make it right but I'm convinced that's his motivation

It's hard to say that Johnson maximized talent when the same talent went out and won a Super Bowl without him.

But Garrett sucks, so whatever.
No it's not. It is easy to say that if Neil O'Donnell hadn't pretty much handed Larry Brown two Int's and a big contract with the Raiders they probably lose that superbowl.

Unreal there are people on here bad mouthing Jimmy Johnson.
Who is bad mouthing Jimmy? Those are fighting words. That man had an untarnished rep in Dallas. The best 5 year run ever in the history of the league from a rebuilding perspective. Barn one. Period full stop end of sentence.

Add to it, neither Tom or Jimmy are in the ring of honor....what's that tell you about the great Jerrah jones...tell's me he's a rotten POS.

TRUTH. Perfectly illustrates our nightmare: kissing Jerry’s butt and being loyal so he can have the spotlight is valued by Jerry more than the accomplishments of 2 great coaches that brought all 4 (truthfully all 5) Superbowls to this franchise. And that 5 billion The Cowboys are worth is based on those 5 Superbowls and the winning legacy Tom and Jimmy put together. Jerry, what have you done over the last 24 years to add to these coaches’s accomplishments ? Besides being the NFL’s most successful carnival barker ? Same stuff, different day...performance and accomplishments don’t matter...it’s all about Jerry. They should call it the Ring of Homer
