No one talking about Matt Rhule this morning?

I am surprised there is not more chatter about Matt Rhule this morning after Baylor was defeated by a banged up Georgia Bulldogs team last night. I admit I haven't watched much college football this year and this was my first real look at Baylor and their head coach, Matt Rhule. Its one game and I will keep that in perspective, but as I watched the game I tried to picture Rhule as the Cowboys Head Coach. The parallels to the Cowboys were inescapable. Georgia was missing a bunch of injured starters yet they dominated. Does that sound familiar? Baylor made a lot of dumb mistakes, like encroachment penalties, dropped passes, and a really bad decision to go for it on 4th and 4 around mid-field early in the 4th quarter. They failed, gave Georgia momentum and a short field. Georgia drove for a TD to basically ice the game. I wonder if Rhule had a Maher-type kicker, would he have tried a 60 yard FG instead of going for it? This was all too reminiscent of the Cowboys 2019 season.

Again, it was one game, but maybe it was a sign that Matt Rhule is not the guy for the Dallas Cowboys.

You admit you don’t watch college football, but took the time to make a post about a subject you aren’t educated about? And I’m supposed to then take your opinion seriously?

I posted on another Cowboys site before 2014.

You are simply making this whole fantasy that most fans didn't give Garrett a fair shake up. You just are.
I think @Idgit is overstating it, because a lot of it was just trolling, but this board has absolutely had an anti-garrett crowd since the beginning.

Nobody talking about Belichick after that Dolphins game?

One game is so silly to try and judge somebody off of...
Well that just goes to show you sometimes even a good coach can't help a piss-poor playing team

I never liked him as an OC, never thought he should have been HC, and have been wanting him fired since Day 1.

So...yea lol. Though I don't really believe in the sabotaging stuff, he's just not a good coach.

Fair enough. One nice side effects of him being replaced is I don’t feel obligated to defend him on those topics in every thread, but, yeah, he wasn’t everybody’s favorite new coach in 2011-2013. He had a lot of haters from the jump—whatever their reasons.

Define “ not anything “.

Is that like all the games Dak has won the last 4 years? Lol

This thread isn’t about Dak. Save that for the Dak threads.

Ok. How about hasn’t made it past the divisonal round, ever, as a coach. Is that clear enough.

I actually wouldn’t hate Garrett in the front office.

I think it actually suits his talents more than coaching. Plus he is one of the few people who has been proven to be able to talk sense into Jerry about player acquisition.

And rightfully so he had haters from the onset.

He was hired in the most dysfunctional fashion naming him “ future of the Dallas Cowboys” without a title before Wade was named HC. Which set Wade up for failure fueling the sabotage conspiracies.

My argument is it’s hypocritical to argue our record has been good for Dak but not good for Jason. I think it’s totally relevant when you bring up he hasn’t won anything.

No one said there wasn't an anti-Garrett crowd. I mean there are always anti-players/coaches crowds with any fanbase.

The point here is Idgit wants to play this silly game where he wants people to believe fans, the vast majority of them, are unreasonable and will get on a new coach immediately if he doesn't win like the fanbase got on Garrett right from the start.

But that's not what happened. There wasn't this vast, large, strong majority of fans that turned on Garrett right from the start. Sure, there were some that never wanted him hired to begin with and criticized him from the start, but this idea that Garrett never got a fair shake from the vast majority of this fanbase is absurd. You said it yourself, he's overstating his case.

Rightful or not, you’re right that the way he was brought in and forced on Wade was another reason a lot of posters didn’t like him from the start.

I’ve thought from the beginning this was his destiny when his coaching days were over and Jerry had kicked the bucket.

And Jerry might be trying to convince him of taking a similar role . But I suspect Jason is ready to move on if he can’t coach here.

I don’t use Dak’s record, ever, when discussing his value as a quarterback. So it’s not hypocritical. Because I’ve never done that.

You’re backtracking, it whatever. It’s not like I wasn’t right anyway.

I don’t care if you guys recognize that you’re unreasonable or not. it’s a simple matter of fact. I’m just pointing it out because it’s relevant.

And, for the record, I didn’t say a “large majority of the fans turned on him from the start.” This started because I lolled at your suggestion that a new HC would get FOUR YEARS of leeway. You’re the one trying to pretend Garrett got three, when the reality was he had a significant number of detractors from the moment he was promoted to HC.

My concern with shuffling Garrett to the FO stems from direct experience in the business world. I have seen too many cases in which the incumbent manager was moved to a role that still exercised line authority or, at the least, direct influence over his/her former work unit.

More often than not, much needed changes in organization, strategy or direction, are often muted or outright avoided for fear of upsetting the previous Manager.

That is the situation I see with Garrett remaining. Regardless his role, he will continue to exercise influence, if not, direct control over football operations.

If there is any truth to Garrett undermining Wade Philips, then would would likely see more of the same. Even if there is no truth to the Wade situation, practical experiences suggests this sort of move is doomed to failure.

I am not back tracking at all.

I never said that every single, solitary Cowboys fan supported Garrett from the start. A majority of Cowboys fans will give a new coach some time, most won't jump on him after the first loss(es) like you have claimed.

The majority of Cowboys fans gave Garrett some time before some turned on him. Define "significant" number of detractors of Garrett right from the start............. 10%, 40%, 60%?
