Interesting article on McCarthy's time in Green Bay

McCarthy tried to lose that game about 9 times on Sunday, and each time his defense or Rodgers bailed him out. You can tweak him for clock management or call him out for personnel decisions, but my biggest issue with McCarthy is a simple one: He doesn’t coach to win. He coaches not to lose.

The people comparing McCarthy to Garret is ridiculous.

garrets biggest fault wasn’t that he “didn’t complain” to the front office. Garrets biggest fault was the lack of preparation.... lack of in game adjustments. Lack of respect on the team.

idc if McCarthy isn’t a rock the boat type coach. I care about the above three things. This guy had a ring on his finger... this guys been to the playoffs with far less talent that we have on our current team.
... and let's not forget to mention that he has as many wins against us with an inferior team as Garrett had during his entire tenure as HC.

That has to count for something.

just saying, you'll rode Garrett for this

Matt LaFleur will fix McCarthy's game-management woes
Matt LaFluer is hiring a game-management specialist, which is something Mike McCarthy should have done a long time ago.

Just like 99% of HCs, there will be players who dont care for them and others who do. But he has learned from his mistakes and has went full analytics.

lol...what makes you think he learned, when the heat is on you revert back to old habits. and I don't believe in analytics in football decisions anyways.

Nothing wrong with building through the draft but Thompson took it to the extreme and when the draft success started to wane it led to McCarthy's exit.

Yes, he was a good soldier because I've never heard him comment on this.
Yes,Jerry struck gold when he found a coach that will never go public with all the behind the scenes idiocy that goes on because of Jerry’s interference. McCarthy is the perfect coach for Jerry . Even better, McCarthy has not squealed on his former employers and that is something that Jerry will value in a few years when McCarthy is fired.

from an article Mike Lombardi posted on "The Athletic" (a subscription I greatly suggest any sports fan get)… It's a paid article so I can not share much but I found this very interesting...

"Packers General Manager Ted Thompson, the man who hired McCarthy, hated free agency; he only wanted to procure talent through the draft. He might look at some free agents, as long as their new contract did not affect the compensatory pool. Thompson only wanted draft picks or college free agents on his team, which meant the team was always youthful … which also meant the schemes couldn’t be too complicated. McCarthy never said a word; he never complained or leaked his disappointment in how the Packers’ front office worked. As the overall talent on the team decreased, and as some of their great skill players retired, the Packers’ offense slowly began to decline. McCarthy took the heat, he took the blame, never blinking or throwing anyone under the bus. His understanding of the rules of engagement in Packer Land had to impress the Jones family."

I've known Ted for years FWIW... I know... worth nothing...

Thompsons took "build through the draft" (only) to the ultimate extreme so the rest of the league could learn how quickly that strategy can go bad...

Now we know... :)

Wait, now I'm thoroughly confused.

I read the article and took it as, "Hey Cowboys fans!! Look what McCarthy did with bottlenecked, lacking talent and minimal roster building..with an All Time Great QB!!"

Then I read the comments, and everyone is turning it into a Clapperbot.500 v2.0?!

What the hell is going on??

The guy also beat us in the playoffs with less talent.

I also don't care if he didn't butt heads with the front office. He had to deal with a prick Rogers hating on him. At least he got his team to the playoffs and into the finals most of the time. What has Garrett done?

So he wasn't aggressive enough when they had a lead? Most of his ex players have been showering him with praise. Hows that work?

Lol
just has you have players coming out showing Jason praise. but it's not just his players it's fans too. just like here

But you have guys like Tj. lang and John Kuhn, guys who praised him and said dallas was a contender now.

You have guys here who praise the coach here too.
You also have fans saying the same exact thing in Green Bay saying the same thing fans here say. they complain about game management and clock management, playing not to lose rather than win, except here there's no Aaron Rodgers to pull a rabbit out his hat

Exactly and this pisses me off. We didn't get a blood and guts kick the players butt type of coach but another Yes man for Jerry. Garretts circus has left town. Mcarthy will have the new one.

"Blood and guts kick the players butt" types of coach don't last in this or any professional league.

The players are a little older and too well compensated for that type of approach to work more than a short-period of time. The messenger is soon ignored because his/her message becomes old and stale.

You can't intimidate players into performing at the highest level.

That type of approach went out of style... I don't think it ever worked very long.
