I think they were holding out hope that he might be able to play when they still had that fantasy about 'making the playoffs'.

I still can't believe people doubted his neck problems even BEFORE this season. Still unsure how something that he had since he was a child didn't pop up until well after the draft though. Who paid who to keep that quiet?

IIRC the original reports were that his neck still had swelling and they wanted to wait till it went down before further imagining. Think that was before the IR designation.

He was placed on IR on the 24th of December. So, who knows. Maybe he didn't want to have surgery around the holidays and/or scheduling issues.

This is the one guy under contract that I'm most concerned about this offseason.

Him getting well and back on the field will be critical for this defense.

Have to worry about neck injuries but this surgery has come a long way that it shouldn’t hinder is remaining time left, which could still be another 10 years

Honestly this is probably for the best. Doc gets a good look at it - lets LVE know what to expect on future risks. If LVE and doc feel comfortable for future, then give him the green light and lets roll!
