It's an odd thing on here. The ability to overrate some players off the spectrum and at the same time underrate players a few notches.

Sure, he's not gifted like Mahomes, but some got a handful of bad games stuck in their head from 2017 and can't let go.

Almost like the posters who hate on Heath from a play 7 years ago. "Remember Megatron and AP. herr derr"

Rivers at #2 is whack though for FA rankings though

Dak is getting paid regardless. McCarthy also needs to realize his BS calls will get audible if he doesn’t keep Lal on the staff.

Question is: If Dak is the franchise QB of the Dallas Cowboys, is $40-mil/year a bargain in the long run?

I think it is if he Dallas truly wants him.

If the Cowboys did not tag Dak and he became an Unrestricted Free Agent, many people believe he would be the #1 free agent on the market.

Here are a couple of articles about the concept, but there are others and there are media (not Cowboys media or fans) that believe Dak would get 40M per on the open market.

No matter what he got just remember Dak is not a RW type that can win you games. He is more if a Cousins or Andy Dayton..that's just what he is. If you can do better we need to. Could MM do better under MM for 18m a year? We would have another 17 to get a few defenders so is that deal better? Maybe..it needs to be discussed. AND think about this Dak is going to lessen another teams ability to have an elite QB we cant dismiss that either. If I could sign MM to 2 years 30 to 36m with a team out after one yr I would do it...along with getting more defenders on our defense.

If someone is going to give him 40 million dollars I say best of luck to him ! he would be the number one available quarterback? I'd say that's highly debatable, if we could save 40 million dollars I'm sure we can find a serviceable quarterback for a couple years

Dak would get 40M per on the open market.

Its possible when you look at the contracts for guys like Nick Foles and Alex Smith. Dak would get so much money that Cal Poly would say the owners were spazzing out in the sky box.

Dak is getting signed and it won’t be 40 mil

Exactly, it will be for numbers similar to Russell Wilson but the money will be spread out in a more team friendly way. Both sides want it to happen but when the season started well, Dak's agent started moving the goalposts. Now that the dust has settled the two sides aren't far apart.

He’s a QB, of course there would at least 1 gigantic offer for his services. Can anyone really say Dak is a tier below Cousins? There are minimum 4 teams that that would for sure give Dak huge $

The Vikings are what we are going by now to judge what a QB is worth? The team that gave up a first for Sam freakin' Bradford? Then gave Cousins a big pay day when even the Commanders didn't feel he was worth it?

You don't let bad franchises dictate what you pay a player. And let one of those "4 other teams" pay Dak what he wants. That would mean one less team looking for a QB in the first round.

If Dak wasn’t a cowboy and was a free agent from another team and we was in the market
Fans would be screaming for jerry to go get him

No, they wouldn't. Same way people didn't push to get a guy like Cousins, and this place wouldn't push for Derek Carr if he was a FA either.

We're talking about a board who resisted calling Wilson elite, I've read multiple posters saying Mahomes is overrated, that Carson Wentz OUTRIGHT SUCKS, and some STILL won't admit that Brady is a GOAT

And you think this board would be campaigning for Dak freakin' Prescott if he didn't have a star on his helmet? LOL

The first article is just stupid. Wreck a franchise? If the Cowboys are wrong and pay Dak a ridiculous amount of money, that would further wrecking a franchise than letting him hit the open market.

It's reported that Patrick Mahomes might get around 44 million, along with Watson's camp saying they want more than that. Dak won't be signing until those two camps get their contracts, and I won't doubt that Dak's contract now skyrockets.

I'd get out of this as soon as possible.

Well, to the question is not what another team would pay Dak. To me, the question is, what can the Cowboys offer him and get him signed. This is a question of leverage. While I do understand that the OP is really a hypothetical question, the truth of the matter is that you can't discount the fact that any team that wants to sign Dak would not only have to pay him but would have to consider the idea that they would also have to pay a premium of two first round picks. Remember, if the Cowboys placed the nonexclusive tag on Dak, they would have the option to match any offer or take the picks so it only makes sense for the Cowboys to do this IMO. This is one of the best QB drafts in a few years. If you wanted to do this with the tag on Dak, this would be the year to do it for sure.

el torro poo poo dont act like people havent already said it.

Ive seen people on this board say they'd rather have Carr. There are some that want anyone but dak. And yes there would be some people on this board campaigning for Dak if he didnt have a star on his helmet because they wouldnt have his body of work to go by that weve watched so closely. Cowboy fans tend to have a lower opinion of their own its factual and its played out. It happened with romo and its happening again with dak and others.

example is Byron hes going to get a good chunk of money this offseason yet there are some and 1 would be me that feel he can take his 2 career interceptions and good riddance he just don't do it for me.hes good but don't make enough big plays

Were a finicky and crazy bunch of fans
