I think they are thinking about all of this. As the market values go up it’s important to sign him at 35 now. I wouldn’t put my trust in a rookie QB that has never even taken a snap in the NFL to take us to the SB. So many of these first round high picks flop. Just ask the browns, how many years did they get high round QBs. We want to win now so it’s either go with Dak or try to get a brady.

Personally, I wonder if Dallas' window already closed. Hopefully a new coach can fix the mess but overall Dallas looked thoroughly mediocre last year. Hell, outright bad at times against Buffalo, Philly, GB, etc. They played one good game against LA. Jerry may have wasted his window with the JG experiment.

Regardless, my post wasn't implying a rookie QB. It was implying that Dallas use the money saved from not signing Dak on another vet QB and using the extra draft picks to shore up other holes on the team.

If you told me I could sign Tannehill for 25-30m per year and get two first rounders for Dak (who wants 10m per year more than that), I would pack Dak's bags myself and drive him to the airport.

Lol. By the time this next season starts 35 a year will be nothing. When mahomes get signed the market value will jump. Not every starting QB will get 40+ but the starting price will be over 35.

I think the problem with the team this year was the staff and of course JG. He was a lame duck and the players knew it. The rams game proved that to me. They had the capability to play at a super high level but the staff couldn’t keel them doing it. Now the culture will change. We have holes for sure and I think Defense has the most. DT and Safety need help and it’s coming. Sign Dak and Cooper and front end load them to keep some money to sign FA. And cut Crawford and save 8 million there. Resign Quinn.

Its hard for me to put my dak support to the side and look at this just as a dallas fan, but if my options are sign Dak long term or tag Dak, sign Brady and trade dak for at least a 1plus and now have brady and multiple 1’s to draft the potential brady replacement in 2 years....I have to at least consider it

Michael said that Goodell should try to persuade Kraft to not let him leave because it’s best for the NFL.

I disagree.

If Tom Brady signs with Dallas NFL fans will go bonkers. Ratings will go through the roof. Jerseys will sell.. All that good stuff.

The hype around this would be on another level.

Mahomes has earned his money. If i'm Jerry, i'm not betting 200 million dollars that JG was the only problem last year. The roster needs a significant makeover especially on defense. You can't march out the same cast of players and expect better results. Fact is that Dak wasn't good last year against good teams and wasn't able to lead the team to a single come from behind win. In the 35 million plus range, we are bidding against ourselves for his services.

Interesting...
Quite interesting.
Indeed,, and goes back to the real question, the primary,, how much authority does MM really have?
This board can laugh and dismiss this type of franchise move all day, but this is exactly the type of move that
a new regime with a plan actually does make.
If, the new regime, if MM, truly has been given the right to control this teams roster.
Jimmy was the last, is it time, has Jerry finally determined that his strong suit is not
pretending to understand talent/roster?

Ok so gamble on a rookie. Or get a vet that don’t know our system. Or keep Dak. Once he again proves he has improved then the asking price will be up another 5 million a year. I am not trying to argue or really not even disagreeing with you. I have talked with you on other threads about stuff and we are both pretty level headed or at least you are. Lol. I just think that the only reason JJ is considering anything else is because he is wondering if there isn’t going to be a hold out. He has set a bad example by caving up D-Law and Elliot. So now he is gonna play around with the starting QB. He knows he is going to keep him.

McCarthy didn’t sound like he was interested in being in charge of the roster.

I think most coaches are terrible evaluators of talent until they actually get the guy anyways.

Let the scouts do their job.

Irvin prefers players who want to get paid what they are worth by competing and winning championships.
Oh, you know this? This is what he told you? You have no idea what he prefers and you do not speak for him.

If being paid an average of a top 5 QB isn't good enough and he is hell-bent on being THE highest paid I'm all for looking in a different direction for 2020. There's no team out there that would make THE highest paid QB..........maybe he needs a reality check.......personally I'm just about done with his greedy drama.

I'm just wondering how much of this is his agent? But Dak has the last word so he's not without fault. Apparently the rumors that the Cowboys are not "all in" on Dak are true...

No question......In fact, there's a good chance we're talking about a 49er Super Bowl win if Brady was their QB. Instead, Shanahan tried to hide his QB behind great D and solid running game. Hell, Steven Young just mention this week how Shanahan didn't trust Garoppolo.
I’ll take that bet.

He sucked against literally every good defense we played. A big chunk fo his yards came in garbage time, and he failed to lead the team to any come from behind victories. Could he be surrounded by more talent??? I doubt it if we want a good defense. I think we've seen Dak peak and I don't see any more upside. So, yeah, roll the dice in a good QB draft class and spend the cap dollars on the defense rather than Dak and Amari.

But I do agree Jerry is going to cave and sign him just like he did with Zeke and DLaw. Jerry's reputation as a GM is unlikely to improve.

Living in NE, I would embrace this on many levels.

PS, what's going on with videogate II (3rd time caught cheating)?

Actually the Chiefs probably should get him signed ASAP. Do not wait another season. With a SB locked on his resume and he's now considered the best QB in the league, his value is only going in one direction. I would think they could get him signed in $40-42M range now but that could easily change to $45M+ after next season.

Also, another interesting thing about getting him signed. I wonder if his signing will finally slow down the escalating salaries of the QB market coz no other young QB can claim to have his credential, esp with a SB under his belt. The QB market could be in for a correction AFTER he signs. The only up and coming QB that may come close is Lamar Jackson and I'm not sure he would qualify even with a SB.

Think of it this way then:
  • Pay Brady that $35 million a year over Dak (it's the same dollars range)
  • Tag and trade Dak as Irvin mentioned and get at least one 1st round pick, and likely more
  • Use one of your picks to groom a quarterback behind Brady until he retires

Brady isn't what he used to be, but he would demand respect, I think he opens up both the passing and run game.

What a soap opera the Cowboys are. Can you imagine the ratings a Brady led Cowboys would bring? Jerry would pass out.
Jerry is thinking about all the money he can make off the Brady idea. It’s all about the money and brand. It wouldn’t surprise me that it was Jerry floating this idea.
