Again, the backward management of publicly saying they are committed to him, yet expecting a break in negotiations.

Just pay the guy or dont. They always have to wait until damage is done then give in anyway.
....as far as fielding a team around him, maybe itll have to be about being better at finding bargains, or drafting better, or whatever....but the WORST scenario here is let him miss the entire off season then pay him anyway.

People focus on the money. The most costly aspect to this contract will be the years wasted with a QB who's not good enough.

30 million, 35, 40. It's all unpalatable to me.

30 mil is "getting paid".

Honestly, how do you guys equate "getting paid" as getting more than the last man? I don't get this way of thinking. Reeks of extreme greed and short sightedness.

Wilson "got paid" and is now suffering because of it. He just complained this year about not having enough around him. His contract is a big reason why.

It is Business in the NFL, Dak is not looking for 40 mill, he will be expecting to get paid as a top QB and believe me Watson in Houston and Mahomes will get more.

Dak isn't a top QB. Maybe he will be, but not yet.

Just like other QB they will point to the stats that show otherwise. His won loss record as a QB also one of the tops over the last 4 years. I don't consider him elite at this stage nor do I consider many of the QB getting top 5 money as elite.

I believe Dak is a top qb...the problems, are not getting a good young te....lousy special teams....defense that doesn't create turnovers....and having carrot top or simply red for a head coach..

No, they don't. Maybe to the casual fan, but he is not top 5 at this point. He's in the 8-15 range, quite clearly.

It's OK for fans to fall for the stats thing, but it's team crippling for the GM to fall for it.

Define "top". He's clearly not top 5 yet, though McC could turn him into that. I'm looking forward to a staff that will utilize his strengths and work around his weaknesses.

Yeah stats are meaningless unless they fit the agenda. Dak wins helping the team to 13-3 but stats say it was in spite of him, have a 9-7 season where he puts up NFL leading stats but it is all about the W/L and stats are meaningless.
Dak over his 1st 4 season has been one of the most winning QB over that time frame and his stats show a QB who is making very good progress.

Tampa won with Brad Johnson.
It was Baltimore that won with Dilfer.

@Jake gave you an opportunity to correct your mistake but you didn't.
So either you're blinded by your own anger or you really didn't know.

This is football message board 101 stuff... lol

Ah yes.........Dilfer and Johnson. Two good examples.

What's it going to be then, eh?

As we stand now, it is simple.

Both Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones have been clear about their love for him, now his team is asking them to prove it.

Now they have been called out about it, Randolph and Mortimer are getting cold feet.

Of course. Just as he did since college.

However, I am neither a Dak hater or lover, so I'd really appreciate it if the agenda crapp would be left out. Your first paragraph is written to someone else. I didn't bash Dak, and never have. Thank you in advance.

Finding bargains and drafting better? The Cowboys can't field a team that makes the playoffs with a QB that has almost zero cap hit. And now their solution is to make that position the highest cap hit? LOL, they better hope it was 95% coaching.

Pay him like a top QB because you think he is one or don't pay him.

Although I agree with you, the "Like" was only for the Trading Places reference.

I completely agree, but all signs point to #4 getting paid like a top QB who can carry a team on his own.

Some realize that he cannot. Some dont.

My point here was, since it's clear Jerry is going to give in, he should do so sooner than later.

Then, our latest "hope" will need to be finding bargains and drafting better to compensate. They probably will not. It's not a great situation but it's not going to be any different. Prescott is Jerry's Aaron Rodgers and that's that.

I agree with you 100%. But I can still dream, right?

Yes sir!

Kinda stinks when you begin to think about it doesnt it?

Amazing what a billionaire and his ego can do to destroy a national icon.

Yeah. Your post makes a lot more sense when I look at it that way. If you're going to give in, do it now so they can prepare. I just don't know why he gives in every time. What bothers me most is the fact that he doesn't see the leverage he has with a transition tag. Dak would be the perfect candidate.
