What if WR Randall Cobb demands a Beasley like contract?

If he does then he likely is not resigned. I don't think that will be the case. I think he has moved his family to Dallas and wants to stay here with McCarthy to finish out his career. If someone is willing to pay him big money then I would not blame him for leaving but everything I have seen and heard is Cobb really wants to stay in Dallas. I think he will.

This. They just settled in with their child being born and his wife started her career in Dallas. They are staying unless he gets blown away with a deal

I like Cobb. He's a tough SOB. But, there is a limit to what we can pay him with Cooper and Dak sucking down half the available cap space. If Coop leaves, then signing Cobb is a no-brainer.

Its possible that Dak may have to beat someone good without all of his weapons......

I know it's an wide assumption that the Cowboys will seek to re-sign WR Randall Cobb to return as the primary 3rd WR/slot guy.

But what if Randall Cobb's camp ends up demanding a Cole Beasley like contract ?
With Cobb, coming of a productive year with Cowboys to rejuvenate his career, he may decide to take advantage and make the max of what he can to finish his career..ala Cole Beasley.

Not only did Cobb quickly worked very well connecting with Dak, he actually proved durable for better part of the year. Which may have been leading reason why Packers decided not to re-sign him.

But what if Cobb goes the Cole Beasley way and out-prices himself.
Until the CBA deal is done..notice no contracts anywhere are being done.

You can be sure Cobb is going to ask Beasley money or more.

Bye bye.

The deepest position in this draft is WR. The question is how deep is McC's love for Cobb?

I don't think he will. I'd be willing to bet McCarthy and Rob Davis find a way to keep him here.

Cobb is old and regressing, and everyone knows it. What makes you think he'll want/get a big contract?

Keeping Cobb depends on his contract demands and what we do with Cooper..

If we keep Amari then Cobb would need to take a very team friendly deal to stay.

If Cobb's camp were to make any type of demands we'd have read about over & over months ago in one of these columnist fake news articles.

All of what you guys are saying sounds good but this is a guy that can play slot as well as outside just in case Cooper or Gallup is injured.

Right now, he is the 3rd best wr and i dont see anyone on the depth chart below him that can do better. Drafting a wr is an option but Cobb already knows Mike's system.

I say the only way we would get rid of Cobb is if we go after another wr that wants to sign a prove it deal like Funchess or Green. With the history of the Cowboys , those two wrs might cost too much for one year deals.
Cobb is old and regressing quickly, not to mention having trouble staying on the field. He doesn't play outside at a high level any more.

Yeah, I appear to be one of the few who wasn't impressed last year. To me, he's lost the quickness that made him special. He's average at best, and I think he's now dropped into the sub par range as a slot guy. I don't remember him moving the chains w/ any consistency, and that's something we were desperately missing from our WR corps last season.
My thing is if we didn't give Bees that contract why would we give it to Cobb.
Imo, the thing missing from this O was that "get open quick - chain mover" like Bees.

We all saw how he abused our supposed best CB...

I love how we can't afford all of these players that can get higher paydays elsewhere (Cobb, Quinn, Amari, Maliek, Byron Jones) yet we still only go 8-8

It's kinda ironic to complain that we have so many badasses that we can't afford to keep all of them yet we can't win anything signficant when we have all of them under contract......

What is Cobb asks for the moon? What if Dallas does what it has every year for the last half dozen and pay market rates but not higher?

Are those really questions?

and that is what cost the entire coaching staff their job. Those who cover the NFL have pretty much to a man said they felt the talent was here to win and it fell to the coaching staff to get it done and that did not happen. So now that the staff has been replaced do we now say it was the players and they should also be released?

His drops were unforgivable. He was a 50/50 catcher for majority of games. This is a deep WR draft, we can find a better catcher than that

They need to quit putting money into this offense. You will have a top paid qb, rb, oline already. Then everyone seemingly wants to sign Cooper at top dollar.

Yet somehow seems everyone is ready to throw Byron Jones away. Then a prayer for Quinn.

Signing Zeke and Jaylon I'd much rather have thrown at these two

Because Beasley could only do the short routes and defenses consistently sold out against our short game the last three years. We needed a slot guy like Cobb that could contribute short and medium, beyond the fact Beasley wanted an outsized contract.

In the first half of 2018 Beasley was our best WR and couldn't do anything more than this typical underneath routes. If he wanted a big payday he needed to do more.

Tons of good receivers in this years draft. You can get good ones in the 4th or 5th round.

If Cobb wants a ton of money, get a guy in the draft. If fact, I would draft one either way.
When has there been a draft where you can consistently get a guy in the 4th or 5th round?

Agreed. Would like to see more aggression in signing defensive players.

Last year we could of literally upgraded both DT positions for almost the exact salary of cutting Crawford. Any smart front office would of done that but "uhh Crawford is a locker-room guy and our friend, we can't get rid of him"

Interesting to see how it plays out. I would rather keep Byron + upgrade 2 DT spots for the same price as keeping Cooper and then draft a WR in the 2nd or 3rd round. 1st round on another DT or starting safety. Cut crawford and let Cam Fleming walk (move Williams to swing tackle) and both of those together is a 13 million dollar savings that you could use on Quinn or another Quinn type replacement
