What if WR Randall Cobb demands a Beasley like contract?

They need to quit putting money into this offense. You will have a top paid qb, rb, oline already. Then everyone seemingly wants to sign Cooper at top dollar.

Yet somehow seems everyone is ready to throw Byron Jones away. Then a prayer for Quinn.

Signing Zeke and Jaylon I'd much rather have thrown at these two

I have yet to hear any demands from Cobb outside the fact he is excited about McCarthy coming to Dallas. If he is expecting an increase in pay then he will likely end up else where but in view he did enough good things to justify keeping him at the level of pay he is currently at.

I know it's an wide assumption that the Cowboys will seek to re-sign WR Randall Cobb to return as the primary 3rd WR/slot guy.

But what if Randall Cobb's camp ends up demanding a Cole Beasley like contract ?
With Cobb, coming of a productive year with Cowboys to rejuvenate his career, he may decide to take advantage and make the max of what he can to finish his career..ala Cole Beasley.

Not only did Cobb quickly worked very well connecting with Dak, he actually proved durable for better part of the year. Which may have been leading reason why Packers decided not to re-sign him.

But what if Cobb goes the Cole Beasley way and out-prices himself.

Then you let him walk, replace him with a rookie or heck give Dez a look, lol.

Also Dallas can structure the contract as a win for both sides, like the Zeke contract with a lot of money on the backend but low salaries up front. They could give Cobb a big signing bonus but push most of the salary to the last year of the contract so that his cap hit was lower than it was this year.

When has there been a draft where you can consistently get a guy in the 4th or 5th round?
I listened to the Daniel Jeremiah podcast yesterday. He had 27 receivers with a 3rd round grade or better. The average number of receivers chosen in a draft is like 32,

According to him, there is no way 27 receivers will be chosen in the first 3 rounds and a lot of these guys are going to fall into the 4th, 5th and even 6th rounds.

You asked when has this ever happened. Maybe never. Because according to many, this is the deepest draft for receivers in their lifetimes. Take it for what it's worth.

Cobb will be 30 in August and with all the money the Cowboys are having to shell out on huge contracts, I doubt he will demand anything that will have him looking for his third team. He had success with the Cowboys last season and with his old coach McCarthy taking over the team I would think he would want to stay here.

Because Beasley could only do the short routes and defenses consistently sold out against our short game the last three years. We needed a slot guy like Cobb that could contribute short and medium, beyond the fact Beasley wanted an outsized contract.

In the first half of 2018 Beasley was our best WR and couldn't do anything more than this typical underneath routes. If he wanted a big payday he needed to do more.
Hmm to bad our D didn't "sell out" to stop him underneath...

The second part of Wits career, all he ran was that option route but it was a chain mover.

Yes Cobb is better at those medium routes but to me what was missing from the O was that "get open quick" guy - especially that Wit wasn't what he used to be.

Reading some of the tweets Beasley made after he left the Cowboys it didn’t appear he wanted to be here. Could be he was bitter about not being offered more money but he didn’t seem to have many good things to say about the organization after he left.

I agree on all counts. The Buffalo and Bears game were the point where the defense quit and sealed the fate of the coaching staff.

I'd love a quickness guy too, that was what Tavon Austin was supposed to bring but he really didn't. I'd like to see that guy brought in and its a deep draft for WRs, but overall I think our offense is a lower priority than ST and Defense.

Cobb had 3 TDs called back last season for over 100 yards. He would have been pushing 1000 yards, giving the Cowboys three 1000 yard receivers.

Yes the curious case of Tavon Austin, I dont get how they cant come up with just a few plays to get this guy in space, besides that tired Jet Sweep.

There was one play against the giants in Dallas where I think they faked the sweep and got Austin the ball and he got a TD - it was a nice play design - something different, but for some reason never saw it again...

I bet if he was on the Chiefs they'd know how to use him, they got speed all over the place.

Cobb is old and regressing quickly, not to mention having trouble staying on the field. He doesn't play outside at a high level any more.
Trouble staying on the field? He only missed one game last season. How did he regress? He have put up his best numbers since 2015 when it comes to yardage and that is with him not being a full time starter.

Not last year, in the last couple of previous years. It was actually well known, and that's why he was available to us cheap to begin w/.

He appears to have lost a step. Not my take, that's what's being said.

If Cobb demands a big payday, don't be surprised if the staff elects to look for a replacement. There's lots of talented WRs in the upcoming draft. Mike McCarthy is plenty familiar with Randall and his talent level at this stage of his career. I'm extremely confident in that.

Dude, that makes no sense. Cobb may have done that before Mike McCarthy was signed as the new HC but ever since then, Randall has made it clear he wants to work with MM again. You can bet your arse he is going to do whatever it takes to make that happen. Your "what ifs" seem to be coming from the fear of impending doom for the Cowboys in 2020. It's certainly not coming from the point of view of any confidence for this team's decision making.
Cole beasley is a local product. Played high school football at little elm. College ball at smu. Wanted to play with cowboys. News flash.......It's always about the money. Op's premise made perfect sense.
