He’s set to make a salary of $1 million. You do know that it literally 1/2 of 1% of the salary cap, right?
I don't think I've ever seen people so peeved over 1.7M in non-guaranteed money lol. Doesn't prevent the team from doing anything lol.

Also the team has almost 30 or so FA's. It would behoove for them to have some semblance of a roster come open FA period.

$1.7 million for a guy who basically sucks. I would use a 5th round draft pick on a RB who would cost almost nothing and would still be better than Olawale.

I'd only use a late round on a RB as of right now that shows exceptional in a certain area blocking, nickel back or special teams.

Otherwise a late round for just a common lead blocking FB, i'd ask my scout staff to find that guy as a bargain vet FA or an undrafted rookie.

this Olawele option pick up may be more the recommendation work of Kellen and his favoring of a "skilled" FB, as he sees it. .
.. or more the favor of new special teams coach Fassel as Olawele was among the top tacklers on SP.

He's not a traditional FB, He's not a Kuhn type. He's a big RB trying to mimic a FB.
Subpar lead blocker who just shields defenders - but maybe Packers coaches ... err, I mean new Cowboy coaches may think his skill set will come in more better with the new way
McCarthy like to use his backs in the pass game.

this is exciting actually. MM loves using the fullback and this helps solve a need. The guy is dynamic in the passing game too. He will have a big year for us under MM.
I will believe it when I see it.

This was one of the strange trades of this team.

The play with him to me that sticks out is him running a swing route up the sideline and Dak throws it, he is wide open, the ball flies over his head never looking for the ball.

Everybody sees the play and we don't see the FB again.

What a steal this guy was.

So whatever. McCarthy likes him?

Fine.

Let's see if Moore remembers he is on the roster.

$1.7m cap hit.

That million dollars matters if they're as tight to the cap as people like to believe (they aren't, and it doesn't).

Lol.

He’s not a physical lead blocker.

The past coaching staff didn’t utilize his strengths as a runner and receiver (though Moore remains the OC).

Maybe McCarthy will make better use of him.

It's interesting because when we brought him in, I kinda scratched my head and said to myself, "Why"?

I was thinking about this the other day. I mean, we never really use a FB and if we did, you would think that we would want a lead blocker who could actually help Zeke in the run game. We never really played him and we kinda just paid him. But we know that McCarthy likes to use a FB so it kinda makes me wonder just how long we've had McCarthy in mind for our HC? There is probably nothing to this at all but for the life of me, I can't figure out why we made the move to bring this guy in and pay him. It's like throwing money into a burning flame.

Actually he doesn't suck, the old staff were too stupid to use him correctly. :D

But it is a bit much to pay, but we will see. As for using a 5th on a RB just to save cap space is not the way to think about it either.
As would he really make the team at all?

Look at it this way, Olawale can actually be used as a RB if needed, and that 5th round pick can be used on defense, where that player will make more contributions than a RB at that point.

I am fine with this move.

Or you could use that 5th round pick to move up a little in the 4th if there is a guy you realy want in the 4th that’s not going to fall to you later in the 4th.

He's terrible.

Once again this Front Office doubling down on their own ineptitude. They care more about being right than being good.

On his own, no big deal, just a fullback who barely gets used. Just part of the overall problem with this organization.

exaclty. It’s just more of the this “we like our guys” philosophy that has produced zero results. Yet we keep on doing it.

Anyone who was a "key contributor" to last years special teams shouldnt be back at all.

He won't be making the team at that cost.
Just because the ST play was sucky last season doesn't mean everyone that contributed to it sucks. Ain't that simple.

MM actually will utilize Olawale, and hopefully he can regain some hands, been on the shelf under a bad past regime, but now with MM, if Moore is allowed to exploit, and I believe he will be,, O will be a useful tool in west coast based theme built around Daks short to intermediate passing efficiency.
Those knocking O, is only because you/we never had the opportunity to see how talented this FB was/is, because Garrett was a blind fool,, this signing was definitely a bargain that MM stamped his approval on.

Yeah. That's smart. Throw out the guys on that unit who did their jobs well because others performed fully.

Try to avoid just being another clueless fan.

If you studied the preseason a training camp you would know that Kellen Moore wanted to use Olawale more but Garrett jumped in during the season and mucked things up.

I think so. The West Coast offense often uses the fullback more as a pass receiver.
