“Listen. I love being a Dallas Cowboy. I love everything about it. I was just thinking about that today. I think about it almost every day, really. Just primetime games. It seems like more night games than everybody and that always feels good to a football player. You know everything. The facility, I love it here in Frisco where I stay at now. Just the aura of being a Dallas Cowboy, you can’t beat it.” — Cooper on 105.3 The Fan’s Chris Arnold and Zach Wolchuck, via John Williams of Inside the Star.
Sounds like Cooper really wants to stay. I'm betting a deal with the Cowboys gets done.

I feel like, when Atlanta extended Julio Jones' contract, it screwed Dallas.
Probably cost them 6 mil per year in contract talks for Cooper.
There was talk of him signing for 14 mil per year but they never finalized
any deal, and that was a mistake... and bad luck timing, maybe.

I might be wrong. Trying to remember without researching to verify.
Lazy? Guilty. But it's after 3am... lol

The problem with Amari Cooper is that you never can tell when his plantar fasciitis injury might rear it's ugly head. At times, it can actually be a limiting factor in his performance and there's little choice but to take the bad with the good. If he's willing to give the team a discount in his contract for that limitation, it might make up for it, at least, to some extent.

If you're not willing to take the bad with the good, you must draft a backup to replace him. There will always be times when it doesn't cripple him but limits him instead. He can either be great on a good day or mediocre on one when it slows him down. It's a nagging problem can easily get worse when the long season wears on him. To put it succinctly, he bears close monitoring and there will be times when a capable backup might be required.

The upcoming NFL Draft bears riches of WRs that beg to be acquired for a Dallas WR corps that depends greatly upon Amari Cooper to move the chains. We'll need a good WR to spell him whenever the foot woes flare up and he's having a poor day. Otherwise, passing inconsistency might easily lead to a failure to keep drives alive. We'll also require a TE with good blocking skills. It's a factor that's been missing for quite some time now.

I don't care who they move on from at this point. Just bring a championship back. No one has needed amari to win one yet, we had him and couldn't win this crap division this year.

They're going to have to pay up if they want to keep him. at least 18 mil a year

If you move on from cooper then you have to draft a guy to replace him and early in the draft
So if you hit a homerun and drafted a guy who day one is as good as cooper, which is very unlikely, you are back to where you were with one less pick to get better at other spots

If the Cowboys are in win now mode, you keep him.

The odds of a rookie receiver being a #1 or good #2 is slim his first year.
One thing if this team had a shot at a Calvin Johnson type receiver in the draft, but they will be in the range of guys that have potential, but maybe not year one bloomers.
Robby Anderson is another FA WR I could be interested in, but no guarantees he would jive here

long term wise i think Cowboys will get the Amari Cooper deal done ,... but long term, i admit i am more skeptical than optimistic.

- what you see with Amari is what you gonna get - he will make a fool against the weak sista CBs but if he goes up against a much more
elite coverage CB, he is gonna struggle - that was one of the knocks on him during his days with the Raiders ...and it still transpires here in Big D with the Cowboys .

- Our top dog at WR just has to beat out the opposition best top dog at CB, .. one side has to win to give his team the best chance to win . to compete.
and Cooper has that tendency to disappear. if it doesnt go easy and convienent for him, and it becomes a struggle, then he loses his will to compete, sulks and broods and here comes the disappearing act.

- and i know the Jones/McClay group has to have watched and know this as well.
But will they pretend that Amari is better than what it being reputed about him ?

- Is it more about win now, ....more about vet game experience vs rookie learning curve
and maintaining a rapport with Dak ? Plus the Cowboys have already surrendered a 1st round pick to acquire him, that's quite a high investment for any position player.

- Plus there's a chance of us not getting THE coveted rookie WR the team really wants, much less the danger of force reaching for a lead WR - ust for the ssake (and panic ?) of getting one.
and they would have to likely be forced to draft that featured No.1 -lead WR in the first round... instead of better addressing other priority needs very early on it's way too tougher of a gamble to expect legit a No.1 lead WR in the 2nd round.

- Plus that rookie WR would have to learn and develop a rapport connection with Dak and that takes time.

- So what i think is gonna end up happening ? Cowboys will flat overpay for Cooper and he'll continue to be an a up and down lead WR.

True, but you spent 18 million on Amari you don’t have that money for a Free Agent DT or CB. I like Amari, but 18 million for a player who disappeared in our biggest games last year. He should have never allowed himself to be taken out of the Philly game. You have to want it badly, like Michael Irvin. Amari doesn’t want it badly enough to pay him 18 million. At least if we give Dak big money we KNOW he wants it badly!!!
