i said it when he was diagnosed

this disease doesn’t always leave the affected at 100% even years later

self styled forum doctors laughed at this notion

At the elite level of the NFL that 10-15% is the difference being great or below average

apparently he must not be well
The problem is strength. This disease affects your muscles and you lose your strength and for an NFL offensive lineman, strength is their number one asset.

So yeah, a 10-15% decrease in strength can take you from being an all-pro to being average to below average. Fred decided it was better to retire than play as a shell of his former self. I can respect that and I wish him the best of luck in whatever he plans to do for the rest of his life.

Looney can be a decent starting C but I'd pounce in the draft if the right guy is there.
I think McGovern has a shot to beat out Looney. He will need a strong camp and preseason. Looney played fairly well in 2018, and chemistry wise you should be able to plug him right in.

Chemistry is important to OL play, and right now we are lucky we have a guy that has 16 starts with our current OL

Im not surprised to see him retire. Fred has been through a lot with his disease and its given him a lot of time to think. Along with everything going on right now he has decided to look out for himself and he is the only one that can do that. Totally respect the player and his decision.

What about Jaylon Smith, can he be far behind? Been saying this all offseason....the way Jaylon looked last year....something is not right. No coach in their right mind would allow Jaylon Smith to put that on film week after week after week after week.....
He had the 6th most tackles in the NFL last season. Obviously he could be stand to be tougher in the middle, but that’s a mindset, not a health problem.

He made the

Dam, out of 7 first round picks we have two guys that are totally healthy and are star players....Zach and Zeke

2/7 on first round picks is not good, we really do need to start drafting better. As for LVE, ask anybody that has ever had neck surgery if they are ever 100% again. Like others have said, dont expect a very long career out of LVE. MLB is probably the worst position on defense to play if you have a gimpy neck.

It's not good. However, those two guys are also perennial all-pros, so that has to be taken into consideration

Frederick and Jones arent suddenly bad draft choices because they are no longer with the team, and one of those 1st rounders was used in a trade for Cooper. As for LVE, it all depends on what a person believes the team should have known from the injury in college.

Fred was mediocre to awful last season. Looney will be a small upgrade. Plus he’ll have jokes and be a comedian in the locker room. A jester of sorts. What’s not to like about that?
Not really true....
2018 DAL O Line (Frederick missed entire yr):

31.6% pressure rate allowed (24th in NFL)

56 sacks allowed (31st)

2019 DAL O Line (Frederick played all 16)

21.1% pressure rate allowed (2nd best)

23 sacks allowed (2nd fewest)

5 guys make up a line of course but this is a big loss.

ALSO: With Frederick on field, in Zeke's career he scored once every 25.4 carries. W/out Frederick, Zeke scores once every 50.7 carries. In close: 21.8% of Zeke's red zone carries score. W/out Frederick, just 12.8% of Zeke's RZ carries score. Again, he's just 1 of 5 guys but...

We gave up the most sacks in forever with Looney out there at center. Part of the problem is that he isn't very good at identifying defenses and setting up the blocking. I like Looney, but he may be at his best as a backup/fill-in instead of a starter.

I'm sure he'll get his chance, but I won't be surprised if McGovern takes the center job and Williams remains the starter at LG.
im sorry blaming Looney for Daks holding the ball issues and the LG swinging door issues is short sighted.

.i remember that year, team did well with looney at C, the most important part of centers job is snapping a clean ball 100% of the time, then calling plays, then blocking..i guarantee his actual grades for his responsibility's was very good... McGovern is a rookie and he will first battle CWILL at LG and work into backup C with second unit..the coaches will sort it out but REMEMBER WITH NO OTAS MCS OR POSSIBLY A SHORTENED TC AND NOW A SHORT PRESEASON SXCHEDULE THERE NOT ALOT OF ACTUAL TIME FOR A ROOKIE TO LEARN A PRO SPOT LIKE CENTER..:rolleyes:o_O

MM has some decsions to make but give looneys experience hes penciled in at starting C unless McGovern blows him away..having one bad snap could cost us game with turnovers or get a QB killed..

we have bigger holes to fill with Xavier and Fleming gone as swing backups..

I don't think that is the case at all.

If that were the case they never would have allowed the Giants to flirt with Looney to sign him.

This front office is inept. They were caught with their pants down with Witten on the eve of the draft.

This one just looks better because Frederick is a good fellow and did not leave the team completely
high and dry.
They have a few in-house options, as well as the rest of fa and the draft, they will be fine at the position. I fully expect the team designate him as a june 1st release, as they will spread his dead money over 2 years.

I knew Travis Frederick was super intelligent and I respected him as a very good Football player.

Today he becomes a Great Man! I love football but there are some things that are more important! Family First!

I get that but to put it in perspective here is the cheifs with no 16,18 or 19 and early on it looked like a big ? with fisher. So out of the champs last 10 years only Mahomes so all hope is not lost.

YEAR PICK PLAYER POSITION GAMES WITH KC
2017 10 Patrick Mahomes QB 17 Texas Tech
2015 18 Marcus Peters CB 45 Washington with ravens
2014 23 Dee Ford LB 67 Auburn with niners
2013 1 Eric Fisher T 94 Central Michigan
2012 11 Dontari Poe DT 78 Memphis carolina
2011 26 Jonathan Baldwin WR 26 Pittsburgh retired
2010 5 Eric Berry DB 89 Tennessee retired
2009 3 Tyson Jackson DE 74 LSU Retired or released
