The year we didn't have a quarterback and had to go with Weeden, Cassel, etc. was tough, but the (3) 5-11 seasons in a row weren't much fun. It did get us Parcells, though...

Its a tie 1989 1-15 hurt and the sky was falling with all the fallout of Landry fired and the I told you so's before they realized 3 titles were about to be delivered.. then it was 1998-2002 from Campo/Gaily era..those were toughest ever..

Thankfully, the big disappointments were before my lifetime. And the Campo years, I was still really young but remember Chad Hutchinson and that whole debacle.

For me, it's 2008 and 2015, since we were seemingly destined for greatness both years. I'll probably never recover from the way the 2014 season unfolded either.

1988 and 1989 were horrible. The Campo yrs were bad, but I dont think there was any yr worse for me then the 2019 season. The talent they had and just failed. The coaching the selfish play by some players. Was just too much.

Those years rank right up there in the top 5 of all promising but failed seasons.

Quincy carter was selected as a QB for the Cowboys. An amateur could tell Carter is not an NFL QB.
Campo is the coach .
It affirmed that the team management is delusional .

1996-present.

It has been the worst years in my Dallas Cowboys and Football life.

Its a shame that I get more pleasure winning fantasy football championships with my team "How Bout Dem Cowboys" (7 since 2009). I use to follow the draft like Mel Kiper (was one of his first customers and remember when his daughter was born).

Worst is that I play Madden Off Season with the Cowboys and have better success skip games to the Championship with the team I assembled.

My oldest son was born October 1992 and raised on Cowboys championships. My youngest son was born 2006 and has been a Panthers fan, and Seahawks fan because of Cam and Russell. He finally came back to the light in 2016 to be a Dak Prescott Cowboys fan....well you know how that is working this off season.

It has be a miserable 25 years as a Cowboys fan.

1988 was my worst year too. More so cause that’s the year I lost my Dad who we attended more games together than anyone else in my life.

It’s difficult for me to even remember much about that season as he died that August and I was devastated not really into the season as I’d normally be. And what a horrid season it was. I still miss him greatly. My mentor, sports enthusiast, golfing buddy, business partner and father.

The Garrett years because you knew exactly how each season would end despite all the talent and team potential.

We wasted far too many prime careers for pathetic end results.

I became a fan in 1999. Tough for me to pick a "toughest" year, but I'd say 2011. The Cowboys lost three games they easily should have won, and I was living deep in Commanders territory at the time, too. The following season sucked too, when Washington beat Dallas in the season finale.

The Campo years were pretty tough. I’ll never ever be able to get that picture of him in a wetsuit at sea world out of my head.

I was a sophomore, junior and senior during the three straight 5-11 seasons. Miserable.
QB play was god awful and we went into every season knowing we stood no chance to even have a winning record, much less win anything. 2000-2005 was pretty bad. One measly playoff appearance mixed in with Parcells first season but we all knew we stood no chance when we got there. That team was smoke and mirrors.

I'd say the most frustrating years was the three straight 8-8 years to start Garrett's tenure. They weren't miserable but extremely frustrating. We had the talent and could have easily won the East all those years but we gave away so many games each season. Maddening.

How can 1989 be viewed as an all time low point when we just got a cant miss franchise QB, and had a TON of high draft picks ahead?

See 2000 for very little hope.

2000 started some very dark years. The triplets were getting older and their reign was over. The parade of terrible QBs started in this time.

Yea its those little obscure *footnotes* in team history, that actually planted the seeds for the 90's, that and the time that SF jumped right ahead in the '85 draft to pick J.Rice, otherwise he would have been playing for the boys and who knows where that would have led!

yeah, and also like the time Tom Landry and Gil Brandt and the only time they talked Tex Schramm out of t a draft pick. Their charts said to take Joe Montana and they said, no, we have Danny White, and we need a TE so picked Doug Cosbie.

Now Cosbie turned out to be a good pick. But SF ended up with Montana who then beat us in the NFCCG.
And people talk about Jerry’s screw ups. As they had some awful 1st round picks in the 80’s.

I'm going to go with 1989. I was completely numb when Landry was let go (even though he'd gone 3-13) and this new guy and owner came onto the scene. When we ended up 1-15 I thought we were doomed to become a perennial failure franchise. It seemed bleak that these people would be able to resurrect the franchise back to it's glory days. I went to Landry's last win at RFK and Jimmy's first and both still felt like Super Bowl wins just beating the Skins at the time. It wasn't enough though to overtake the fear of the unknown though after those horrific seasons back to back.

2007 was BRUTAL also, you are correct. We should have gone to the SB that year.
