What if we can do this?

Dak finally signs his tag as Mahomes does not get a new deal done prior to the tag signing period deadline.

We have Dalton as a backup right now as we speak and are able to find a trade partner for Dak. We know we can get 2 first rounds picks from our future trade partner that values Dak as a young superstar and leader. We also know that Dalton basically signed on for $3 million with real difficult incentives put in place to make $7 million.

We talk to Cam Newton's camp who says's his shoulder was cleared last season and good to go but the Lisfranc was the problem. However it is now fully healed being off since the 3rd week of last season and they are willing to do a 2 year $40,000,000 deal, $10 million guaranteed. That's $23,000, 000 to the QB position for 2020 as opposed to $35 to $43 million.

We then have Cam starting, Dalton backing up and 3 total 1st round pick in next years draft that has Trevor Lawrence and another solid QB class. Furthermore, if we do go far into the playoffs with Cam we can draft young impact players to fill the positions that held us back from taking it all.

Dak did bum his throwing shoulder at the end of the season so who knows there too healthwise. We were already a bit worried about his deep ball overall. Below is an interesting article ranking all QB's arm strength pro and college. Cam and Dalton are both ranked higher.

My only question doing this is what would it do to the locker rooms moral? Newton has been to a Superbowl and is one of the leagues freak athletes. Other than Lamar Jackson, he's probably the most freakish QB in the league and 30 years old.

Cam's character off the field may not be as well reputed as Dak's but Cam definitely is a family man and a former 1st overall pick. He has never gotten to play with such weapons on offense also. 3 stud WR's, one of the leagues best o-lines, a blooming young TE and a perennial rushing leader all bundled in 1 offense.

What's everyone's take?

Hahaha! Believe me I am a Dak fan. But not at close to $40,000,000 a year.

Do we get such a drop off in talent doing this?

3 - 1st rounds picks in 2021 draft plus all of those comp picks.

Opposing teams do not respect Cam's game? His ability?

I also do know the team wants Dak to continue being the face of the franchise but if him and his agent are not going to budge and sign for $35 million a season what choice to we have?

What Dak is signing for is what QB's are going to be making from here on out.

To expect to win going with cheap options at QB is expecting a miracle

I’ll keep saying it.. there’s a new Sheriff in town.

Mike McCarthy loves QBs and loves grooming another. In today’s league where QBs are the difference between winning and losing, it’s a great strategy to have.

One thing is for sure.. McCarthy is NOT going to let a QB (Dak) hold his team hostage. This is a huge contrast from the previous regime. McCarthy has a job to do and he intends on shoring up the Dallas Cowboys. He’s focusing on things he can control. He can’t control contract negotiations and/or whether Dak is the starter or not. But he can continue to bring in players that can and will be productive.

I’m on team Dak, unlike the many haters on this site. That said, I appreciate a coach that thinks outside the box and can adjust if or when needed.

For the moment, Dalton is purely a backup QB knowing the FO has every intention to sign Dak... Albeit, at the right price. Fans should be praising the FO for sticking to their guns. Yes, Dak has flaws, but he’s also a much better QB than most Cowboy “Fans” give him credit for. That said, if Dak and his team have over valued themselves and continue to push to ‘set the market’, well Dallas will have no choice but to reverse course.

McCarthy and the FO have a TEAM to build. Dak just needs to figure out if he wants to be apart of it. I’m tired of folks talking about “Pay Dak” with disregard to the Price. Every rumor I’ve read indicates that the Cowboys have a contract on the table that will pay him closer to $35mil a year.. that’s a generous offer and more than most expected from the beginning. I get Dak wants to capitalize on the new CBA and possible salary cap increase.. but let’s be honest. Dak is NOT the top QB in the league and prob is more around 10-15th..he hasn’t won a SB.. and he can thank his teammates for much of his success. I like Dak and want him signed.. but at some point, he needs to recognize he’s still a young player that hasn’t done anything in the postseason. Sign the contract. Play your *** off. And if he wins a SB and becomes the top 3 QB in the league.. I won’t blame him if he holds out for more money later. Till then, he still has a lot to prove.

What team has two first round picks next year that want to trade both of them for Dak? I would think you would get a first rounder for two different years, not two in one year about the only teams I see with two are the Jags and the Dolphins, one just drafted their QB and the other is in the tank for Lawrence. (Not that you are getting two firsts for him anyway)

As for the rest of it...

Here's my plan:

1. Flip Dak for Aaron Rodgers and a 7th.
2. Flip Rodgers and a 7th for Deshaun Watson.
3. Flip Watson for Russell Wilson and a 5th.
4. Flip Wilson and a 5th for Lamar Jackson and a 4th.
5. Flip Jackson and a 4th for Patrick Mahomes.

You've just traded Dak for Mahomes straight up.

it's not about the AAV. It's about 4 vs 5 or more years.
