But Dak wants a contract worth much more than the tag.

The first few years of the contract will be a lot less than the current tag number. And the only real number to pay attention on these contracts is the guaranteed money, not the total dollars.

A year ago Dallas signed Cam Fleming to a two year contract for 7.5 Million and paid him 3 million for one year. The non-guaranteed money doesn't mean a whole lot.

If the negotiations have come down to 4 years or 5 years, Jerry should just give Dak the 4 year deal he wants, and then franchise tag him for the 5th year. I wouldn't be surprised if JJ and Stephen have already figured this out but just don't want to announce it until everything is open again and they can have a real press conference at the Star. I would imagine the Star will be open by 15 July.

In 2019 Dallas was 28th QB salary as a percentage of CAP
In 2019 with the tag Dallas jumped to 3rd.

But Dak wants a contract worth much more than the tag.

dak’s cap hit would actually go down if he signs an extension and be less than the tag. You can’t go off the reported AAV numbers to deduce the actual cap hit.

He did a lot of this when he played for Syracuse as well. Always unconditioned loser.

Dak for 4 years at $30MM-$35MM/per isn't going to wreck anything. It's a blessing in disguise.

With current world events, we have no idea how the salary cap is going to play out. Actually, it's one of the main reasons I would not even consider giving a contract to Dak yet and it's also why there have been so many 1 year deals giving out in FA this offseason.

Dak should be staying on the tag.

IMO, the tag will be a toxic scenario. Dak will likely not show up until the 11th hour, a tremendous amount of bad will be generated and it could potentially lead to division within the locker room. Oh, and welcome aboard Coach.

The tag is going to cost much more when you consider opportunity cost and the potential fallout from a damaged relationship. Then what do they do, tag him again in 2021? I am not in the camp that thinks Dalton is more than a dude that helps you feel better about what happens when what you wish would never happen, happens.

Franchise QBs eat up a big amount of cap. You need them to win in the NFL. I am in favor of less years on Dak's deal to give the Cowboys an out sooner rather than later.

Nobody can comprehend that moving on from Dak at his current price tag is a smart move..

You just have to do it is the logic..

People still think QBs are impossible to find even though our backup could get similar results with this cast of players.

Being that the salary cap will most likely drop next year, it might.

It isn't going to drop. That would create too many headaches for everyone. The league will suspend or adjust the salary cap formula. At the very least, they will simply freeze the cap at the same level as this year.

The difference between a $2 million dollar guarantee on a 2 year contract and a $100+ million dollar guarantee on a 4 year contract is well not even comparable. Next time just bring up an undrafted player we gave $20K in a signing bonus if you are going to try and compare something that ridiculously different.

80+% of Dak's contract will be guaranteed. Whether you agree with the signing or not your look at the guarantees vs. Total dollars is pretty much mute as they will be fairly similar.

Yep QBs aren't impossible to find....we've only had maybe 3-4 elite QBs in our franchise history..

Do you know what it means the majority and the Cowboys disagree with your LOGIC about Prescott?

you are a Dak Hater....

He isn’t elite though and Dalton can fill his shoes.

He’s already got a replacement on this roster.

You think Dalton can beat Dak in an open training camp competition for QB1 position?

Rep for rep...with our current roster makeup specifically Oline against our Dline in Camp?

When a former player for one of Dallas' most hated rivals (Philadelphia) expresses his earnest desire for the Cowboys to give Dak a mega payday, that should tell you something about the wisdom (or lack thereof, rather) of giving Dak that payday.

And some of you thought I was crazy when I said the people wanting us to sign Dak so bad, some fans included are just trolls, wanting to laugh at Jerry and see us ruined.

Handcuffed to a bum.

Fans that want Dak at any price have to be trolls or only Dak fans.

#DontpayDak

Fans that post what McNubb posts are trolls.
