Go back to the early part of the decade and PFF had Witten the #1 TE three years in a row, and in the top 5 for most of the decade. He was the top blocking TE. He was the best all around TE in the game.

That was the discussion, who is best Gonzalez, Gates, or Witten. Witten always won because he was the better blocker. Looking back now, all three will be in the HOF.
But did you see what the poster posted at the bottom of the tweet?

WAR is typically used for baseball, but takes into account the subject player compared to a baseline(average) player at that position, and then calculates how many additional W's a player added over a span of time. The player and the value of the position are both taken into account.]

Its not your typical PFF ranking.

Earlier in his career, Witten was a fundamental part of the success of the offense. He was a chain mover and an excellent relief valve for the QB. He probably kept more drives alive than any player other than the QB.
Them days were LONG AGO though.

You missed my response to that post where I said ok.

I brought up PFF to show that at the beginning(first half)of the decade Witten was considered the #1 TE in the NFL. The other two options were Gonzalez and Gates.

At his position Witten was considered the best player. Ware is the only other player that can make that statement. Like I said before, Prescott and Jones only played 4 and 5 years respectfully. Ware's last four years in Dallas should get him on the list.

WAR is a counting stat. Witten's on it because he was there for the whole decade (well, almost). Ware isn't because he was only there for a few years of the decade. It's an arbitrary time period, which makes for an arbitrary list.

got it. Well, that makes more sense then.

It seems you have Witten mixed up with somebody else. Maybe Jimmy Graham since yoi left him out? Witten was considered the best at his position only one year in the early 2010's, and has been hurting his WAR since 2015.

He was considered ONE of the best yes. Top 5 at his position. But it was tight end. His position IMO, isn't as important as QB, RB or WR.

I used to look at PFF all the time, until they started charging for it. Witten was the #1 TE on the NFL at the beginning of decade according to PFF.

Graham was only a receiver, he was a terrible blocker, which is why NO decided to go another direction at the position.

I really couldn't imagine hating on any of these guys while they were/are here.

The order looks about right to me. Of course, other people will allow their preferences to see a different order.

That's 4 years. Prescott has only played 4 years, Jones played 5.

That's why Witten should be higher, he played the entire decade.
Its not someone ranking them
Its a plug in the numbers and get an output thing
Non biased supposedly.

Does not mean its accurate though.

Surprised Sean Lee didn't make it in there. Obviously he missed half the decade with injuries, but he was nearly always our best defender when healthy, so you think a couple of those big seasons would have added up.

If this is a cumulative stat as you are suggesting then what is presented is meaningless.

But it likely is not cumulative. Only a moron would tweet out something so obviously affected by # of years. Also, Ware with 4 years but Jones only 5 ... three of which having no impact at safety. Your interpretation just hold no water.

That Ware with 50 sacks over his 4 season here in the decade is ranked below Jones who had 2 good years really tells you all you need to know about this statistic. Hot garbage.

It’s not a list of the best players. Dak played those 4 years on a 4th round rookie deal. That’s why he is so high on the list.
