I really wonder about the whole Cowboys theme given how much has changed since the 60s.

Back then, the whole image eminated from the Westerns and frontier heritage.

The whole country was overflowing with John Wayne movies, Richard Whitmark, Roy Rogers, on and on.

Sky King, Poncho and Cisco, Bat Masterson, Gunsmoke, Rawhide keep going.

That described the image of the Cowboy for the team. A team that stood for anything just or socially correct and ready to set it right and be a hero.

Is that really a current image in modern times?

I am unsure.

I see Confederate statues being toppled and Confederate flags being banded from NASCAR races, etc

Society has tasted change with the times.
Certainly the Washington Commanders have had fingers pointed at them for a racial slur involving Commanders.

The destruction of the Indian tribes of the Great West where certainly aided and abetted by the primarily Cowboy culture of the times.

Is this something that might haunt us DTR?

Does the Cowboy image have any connotatations that are unflattering or outdated?

Not a by me but I'm very old school. I do not like a lot of change and prefer the old values.

But symbolizum and being sensitive to issues is important.

I know many will think even considering the question is blasphemous.

I hope it is but I just don't have a clear idea.

Because he is creepy as hell....he may have more pictures of Jerry than even Mickey does, It is sooooo hilarious the way he waves field goals no good that actually split the uprights....I run these clips over and over again....can't get enough.

We are one of the most hated teams in all of sports.

Rowdy ranked 335 out of 336 sports team mascots.

So he is not worst.

I would support a mascot that honors Crazy Ray in a heart beat .. and I don't mean some over-characterized-giant-head-wearing-mascot clown like Rowdy, but rather hiring someone to carry on his legacy as he did.

His family should be compensated by the Cowboys for the use of his likeness and nickname as well.

Changing to a new mascot would have been a good idea the moment Rowdy popped into some marketing's person head. Unfortunately, Rowdy does not win or lose games. He only makes money for Jerry Jones through merchandising by scaring children.

This I agree with.

Ray cruised the stands selling souvenirs and talking to the kids and acting like Captain Kangaroo. Making balloon characters and talking to children as happened to me back then.

This would be a brilliant idea. A bridge to the past and embracing the new.

They could run short commercials on the big screen about who he was and if people buy from the new Ray part of the proceeds go to charity.

Or go to the official souvenier stands and buy, it's partly a donation.

It's a tradition. And you do not have to delete Rowdy. Make Rowdy and a new Crazy Ray a team and they together work.

Rowdy is too big and could injure somebody walking in the stadium. They could redesign his costume and get him more accessible to everybody.

Change is good.

I had my picture taken of him at the Corral Club at Texas stadium in 96 can't find the damn picture he was quite the guy , there was a fight that broke out at the Corral Club between a Commanders and a Cowboys fan as it was being broke up Ray broke out his six guns and pretended to shoot them I'm wondering if he wasn't as drunk as I was?

Anyone else think we could use a new Mascot?
