and his name is Xavier Woods. He is another player I think was misused by the previous coaching staff. Xavier Woods doesn't seem like a ball hawk to me. He has been better laying hits. I think pairing him with a true free safety and playing him close to the line of scrimmage more often would give him the best opportunity to produce. I really wanted the team to bring in Earl Thomas which would have put Woods at SS, or for them to draft a free safety instead of Trysten Hill. Clinton-Dix would fill that role well enough this year but they should try to get a ball hawk for next season.

Good observation and it will be interesting to watch how it plays out this season.

Wait, thinking in those terms can't every team with a SS say the same thing...

Woods is a good 10-15 lbs light of Adams from the last numbers I've seen. Having said that, I've always liked the kid and he does lay down some shots at times. Can he add the bulk?

The old staff used the SS and FS as the same. They thought they could be used in either spot to fool the offense. At least I read that once, they were interchangeable.
Shows, again, how incompetent they were at the scheme as well as coaching.

Its a bit of a stretch to think Woods is a SS. Its massive stretch to think he can be our Jamal Adams
Very bad comparison.

Woods and Adams have been in the NFL for 3 years. Adams is supposedly what makes the Jets defense go. Woods is not the same for the Cowboys.

Yet Adams 3 career INT's....Woods....5 INT's (on our lame butt defense)
For the price, give me Woods.
...that will stir up the Adams slobberers for a Tuesday morning. :muttley:

The name to watch for at safety that could be our Jamal Adams is Donovan Wilson.

I want to see his progress this season. He was coming on in the PS games, but the staff chose not to play him much in the regular season.
His stats shows he played in 11 games, 16 snaps on defense, 138 on ST's.

There is always that small chance he was misused, but Im not seeing it. I see NOTHING special about Woods whatsoever. Not a big hitter, not a ballhawk, I don't see it.

I think this is his last year with the club.

Best part about the new coaching staff is that you know everyone is going to get a fair shot now. I was hoping Wilson would get one last year but he was all but forgotten.

Give me the safety that isn't worth big money? NO thanks.

Woods will be asking for 8-10 million next season. Definitely no thanks.

Better than $17 million for 2 less INT's.
Besides they will draft S's next year. I will still roll the dice on Woods this year. He can't be that much worse than Adams for the money, but who knows he could be better. :D

Woods is a poor tackler, where Adams is considered one of the best at the position. I really don't see the comparison what so ever. One of the reasons why they passed on Juan Thornhill was cause they thought he was more of a FS, in which Woods was their projected starter.

Adams has 98 more tackles than Woods, but he also started 13 more games.
Adams is also used much more in blitzes than Woods. For which he has 23 QB hits, and 28 TFL, as to Woods, basically nothing. But that is the scheme and not all on the player.
Which in a way means nothing.

Average tackles per games started 5.9 for Adams, 5.3 for Woods.
Also a lot of tackles for LB's and S's can show the front 4 and front 7 is not all that good. So need to look at that as well. But defensive scheme comes into play also.

As I said, for the money, give me Woods for this year. Draft a S next year if need be.

Sorry but I just can’t agree with this. Jamal Adams is an elite player. I like Xavier Woods, but he’s a good role player, not an All Pro. Woods is not even a lock for a second contract here yet. He’s still improving and I’m certainly glad he’s here. But he’s a sixth round draft pick who who has played well for a typical sixth round pick. But calling X Woods “our Jamal Adams” is a big stretch.
