You still don't get it.....$36m left to spend AFTER Crawford's GONE.

Oh btw how are we going to replace any of the other Free Agents???

And a 2nd franchise tag costs what?

You don't replace free agents, solid drafting is what build teams. It's not impossible, and I doubt it even comes to that.

Dak would have made like nearly squat , if he wouldn't have been drafted. So this thread is nuts. Dallas had to pay Romo's pro rated bonus after he left. Also, you don't pay a player because you made a good decision drafting him, then putting him on a system to make him better . Maybe Dak, should pay Dallas for giving him Romo's job? For picking him earlier than what many scouts thought he was worth. For dealing with his selfish stance of holding out to be overpaid.

$37.7m

I know we had a good draft in 2020, but, to replace these youre going to need a couple more.....and not many drafts give numerous starters in the first year.

Possible needs:

QB2, (Dalton)
C (unless you chance the inexperienced Biadasz /McGovern)
DE1 (replace Crawford)
DE2 (replace A Smith and Gregory's a FA)
LB1 (replace Lee)
LB 2 x2 ( Thomas and March)
Safety1's x2 (Clinton Dix and Woods)
CB 1 (Awuzie)
CB 2 (Lewis, Worley)

No, I intend to explain that whatever Dak got in the past is irrelevant.

Look at the CAP and you'll see why JJ wants....no probably needs to get Dak to accept 5 years.

I see. I suppose if we are going to talk about it, we need someone around here with the facts and proper perspective.

Yep ...i'd like to say ….give Dak what he wants, we've got the money. or just restructure bad contracts or just cut players or the worst of all....we never have a CAP problem.

You can see exactly why the Dak negotiations are slow and why JJ wants him to get a 5 year deal.

The CAP doesn't get better …..2022 - 29th lowest available CAP and 2023 we have the lowest available CAP amount of any team)

That's what the players wanted. They thought the incoming rookies were getting overpaid and negotiated that change with their deal years ago. I like it better now because most of the rookies have to prove themselves before making big bank. Earn that big money with your second deal.
It was mostly the first round rookies holding out for bigger contracts although they didn't play a down of football.

That's why I advise you have a look at the available Cap for 2021...…

We have $36m (not including any carry over from this year).

Dak's Franchise Tag for 2021 is $37.7m.

….and we have: Crawford, Lee, Clinton-Dix, Looney, Smith, Awozie, Worley, Lewis, Thomas

So will need CB's, Safeties, Edge Rushers, LBs, Center ….. all for under a million each.

There aren't really any short term, high financed contracts that can be extended at a lesser rate (unless you want to guarantee money to Coops and DLaw and give them more years - not happening).

Either way we are not going to offer Franchise Tag.

But people want to add another Jamal Adams with another big cap hit.

Yep its just not happening.

What we did well this year is sign two good veteran DT's to reasonable contracts....what I fear with a four year Dak deal (and certainly a second Franchise Tag) is going to mean we wont be in the market for such contracts.

We aren't going to chase elite players like Adams, not even get good professionals like Poe, McCoy (and Clinton-Dix), ….no we'll be dumpster delving to patch up every FA (and praying that every draft produces immediate starters).

Im a Dak fan, but can see future financial restrictions ….(unless we want to still be paying: Zack Martin, Tyron Smith and La'el Collins into their 40's)

That’s what Dak Prescott has made so far in the NFL. Even if he signs a 4yr/$36m per year contract - the Cowboys still got an insane bargain over an 8 year span!

That’s just my personal opinion.

agree.

they got a bargain.

Explain to me:

1) How much CAP space do we have available for 2021.
2) What are the Cowboys CAP issues over the next couple of years.
3) Which contracts do you propose to restructure (and therefore extend and given more guaranteed money) to create more space in 2021? Clue - Most commentators are saying that Coops and DLaw are more likely to be cut in 2022 rather than extended....
Cowboys cap Issues, none Cab space for the following year I don’t know . Do you think I can see the future. we didn’t sign people yet. I’m not a mind reader.

Not a mind reader.... :lmao:

The CAP Space for 2021 is just over $36m (plus underspend from 2020, which at the moment is $11m.

Why do you keep denying any knowledge when you're told.

And what happens when we sign Prescott. In 15 days

Anybody can use Google. You asked if I understood the Salary cap. I remember the day it was created.

Well depending on how it's structured, but for argument sake, if its $35m for each season, our available Cap as it stands at the moment will be:

2020 - $7.65m
2021 - $8.78m (which includes the $7.65m carried over) and before signing any Free Agents
2022 - $19m (Coops and DLaw may be willing to restructure as they are both candidates to be cut - Dead Money is only $10m & $6M)
2023 = $49m
