I love them because of what they've done for you. They're so nice to the "special" people.

Lol!
Randy was my idol as a kid. When I first met him I was afraid he would be a disappointment. One of the nicest guys you would want to meet. Wade is another class act. They were all very nice. Solomon Page even worked out with my team and Erik Williams let me wear one of his SB rings.

Dude, you're practically a Cowboy player! They should retire a picture of your CoVid mask in the ROH

Any HS coach in Texas has access to these guys. Wade puts on a clinic in San Angelo every June. I was introduced to him by his daddy, Bum. That was a treat. Unfortunately, Wade introduced me to Garrett!!! As you might have heard, Garrett Sucks!! Lol
I was lucky enough to have a friend that worked as a promoter. He's the one that brought these guys down for camps at my school and Randy's martial arts trainer is a friend of one of my best friends from Austin. That's how we got Randy to come down.

Your circle of friends are so much cooler than mine... My circle of friends are a few gun dealers, ranchers, a couple of wine snobs and (through my wife) a few Russian "business men". Ha!

And, ditto on the Garrett Sucks!!

I'm getting a lot crap about people giving up their fandom for this or that!
The first game I ever watched was the Hail Mary game, haven't missed one since. I used to schedule my weekend practice and coaches meetings around the games. I've hosted eight different players at my ranch for a BBQ. Randy White held three camps for me and I've had a few beers with Wade and his staff. George Teague signed a TO jersey for me! Only one he has ever done. Also got to meet with Jerry for about half an hour back in 94. Point is, I love the Cowboys!!! Especially now that Garrett is gone.
Why do you love them boys!!!
I go back to a November in 1963.

We had been living in New Orleans before that and just moved to Dallas that summer.

Then Kennedy was assassinated.

The entire city was branded as a cesspool of evil. The media would not leave us alone.

As time passes, the Cowboys began to win. The city began to be identified with being a good football team with a good coach in the process.

The pressure of the assassination began to ease. The Cowboys helped the entire city regain it's importance again.

But there was a problem again. Dallas was having trouble winning "the Big Game" and were being branded. as 'Next Years Champions ' by the media after repeated failures to win a Championship..

When we won our first SB..it was like a damn broke and the team became a symbol of overcoming adversity to win finally.

Today's fans have no idea about all of that. They just know the hero worship and the success of the sports team and Jerrah's millions.

But that is not how it began. I love the Cowboys because I understand who they are and why they are worth supporting. Like the classic cowboy movie heros they were named for..they are much more than that.

How 'bout Dem Boys?

My dad and my uncle's were fanatics... Nothing could shutdown a Sunday afternoon like a Cowboy's game. For 3 hours, everything would come to a standstill while we gathered around the TV. My job was to adjust the rabbit ear anteana... And, heaven help us if the Sunday sermon ran a bit long and threatened a noon kick-off.

If you get right to the heart of the matter, my love off the Cowboys is probably genetic coding.
Nah..

You just held the rabbit ears too long for your uncle's to get better reception.

It's called 'unintentional imprinting'.

I don't even remember why I became a Cowboys fan but I've been one since I can remember. I think it was in 1964 when they drafted Bob Hayes and Roger Staubach. I was a Staubach fan when he was in college. Who wasn't a Bob Hayes fan when he was an Olympian?

My dad was a Cowboys fan too even though we lived in NY and NJ. I recall how much he hated the Giants. LOL. Like father, like son! But my dad was always a fan of Tom Landry, maybe because they were both WW II vets? He took me to a Giants-Eagles preseason game played at Princeton Stadium just so he could root against the Giants. I was about about 10 or 11 I think. We were sitting in the end zone bleacher seats. I had a near death experience that game when I stupidly attempted to catch an extra point kick. It was coming right at me but as I was about to catch it it seemed like the entire bleachers jumped on top of me! I wound up stuffed under the seats. Eagles fans did not care that I was a little kid.

But I have to be honest, the NFL under Roger Goodell is not that same. The game has drifted away from the fans for a while. I know they have to make money, but at the rate they are going they are going to lose fans. Look at baseball, tennis, boxing, the Olympics, and basketball. All have seen declines in popularity over the last few decades. It can happen to football too. For an extreme example, look at the PBA and professional bowling. Bowling enjoyed immense popularity in the the 1960s. Now it barely televised, the PBA has resorted to gimmickry, and top tournament prizes are a few thousand dollars. Bowling was recently, and I think it still is, the #1 sport of participation by Americans. But no one wants to watch professional bowlers bowl for money anymore.

I dont believe any of this. If you had spent an hour or two with Jerry back in 94 I might think you are a cowboys fan but since it was just a half an hour I have to assume you are an eagles fan or something.

Wade and Garrett running around as buddies while all along Garrett is scheming to get him fired.

Who pulled the string on Garrett's back to make him talk, you or Wade?

Because just about anything is more exciting than bowling. Hell, even a perfect game would put me to sleep.

My grandfather was the reason l became a fan. When l was a small child l would watch games with him and l'd cry if they lost. The offseason was the worst part of the NFL to me. I lived and breathed anything Dallas Cowboys or NFL and grew up HATING the Steelers and Commanders.

Until the last couple years, l could have NEVER imagined my life without football. Goodell has pretty much ruined the NFL and without getting political, recent events have finally caused me to "re-evaluate" sports in my life. I'll always cherish my past memories of this team, and the NFL, but l don't see myself being a part of pro sports anymore.

Lol!!!! Garrett did not want to be there. He gave the impression that he felt he was to good to hang and talk to a bunch of football coaches. Wade and the rest of the staff went out and had some beers with us at Blaines Pub. Nick Saban, Mack Brown and Tommy Tubberville were there with there staffs. One of my favorite memories from my coaching days. Bunch of stud coaches acting like everyday guys!
We played pool with Les Miles at our hotel bar for about an hour and didn't even know who he was until he left and introduced himself. Cool guys.

While I don't particularly care for Goodell, it seems excessive to blame him for the state of the NFL. He really can't change much without input from the owners and the Players Association. He seems a bit random or biased (to some fans) with the punishments, but I think the league has to pander to the squeaky wheels on the wagon of society, so I'm sure he has to make some very difficult decisions.

I'm with you there. But I really wonder about something - did Jerry let Garrett walk because Garrett sucked and Jerry truly wants to win, or did he merely cave to public pressure? MM really isn't really that big of a name, but he's certainly better than Garrett. A dead corpse propped up on the sideline would have been an upgrade over Garrett any day.

This is just my personal belief, but I believe Jerry went with Garrett because he genuinely believed Garrett could get us a championship. With 20/20 hindsight, it sounds ridiculous, but you have to remember for a while when Garrett was the OC, he was thought of as a wunderkind. I believe that Jones was so convinced that Garrett would pull through, that it took that long for him to finally become disillusioned in him.

I'm not an insider. Like I say, this is just my personal educated guess. If someone else knows more, maybe they'll post.
