...when he got shafted my first thought was, "huh". If I'm correct , he hit every single PAT and FG attempt before season ended. So we bring in this guy, who has monster leg, then misses a 53 yarder.

That missed attempt was crucial, those 3 points came to be difference in game.

..your thoughts?

PS.. I know its still first game.

Forbath is in such demand that he's been unemployed since Dallas cut him, so let's not act like he's never missed a kick.

There was another chance to get those 3 points late but the Cowboys passed on it. Neither team scored again.

Neither are Antonio Brown & Earl Thomas.

Right but those guys have problems off the field lol I don't think anybody is concerned about Forbath off the field. He's a pretty accurate kicker too but he is 33, still surprising to me that he isn't on a team over some guys. Maybe John Bones Fassel wanted to bring in his own guy

Forbath isn't a former All Pro with mental deficiencies. He's a journeyman kicker who has played for 6 teams in 8 years.

Otherwise the situations are identical.

Kai Forbath is so good he's not even on a team.

To be fair he signed with us in March and then they cut him in August, after teams have signed/drafted kickers.
Sort of regulated back to no mans land waiting for an injury/another kicker to get cut.

Greg looks as sketchy as David Buehler so until Greg shows me he can be trusted I'm going to continue to say this was a monumental mistake.

...for our sake, lets hope it was the right move. I just go with the philosophy of, "If it works, why fix it?". I mean, until its obvious.

Another Jones Boyz attempt at a splash signing to try to convince the fan base they know what they are doing.

STOP KICKING 50 YARD FIELD GOALS WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE TO

Solves all your problems.

Forbath may not have been able to get a 53 yarder to the goalpost. He hasn't hit one that long since 2017, and the only other season he hit one that long was 2015. It's one FG, and a 53 yarder at that - knee jerk is not the appropriate reaction.

That was your tie game there. If the game was tied would we have went for the 4th down or taken the lead.

A lot of kickers struggled in week 1. These were there first kicks in 8 months (and for some new kickers, their first real kicks ever)

People draw false correlations between raw law strength and accuracy when it comes to long distance field goals.

Forbath actually has a higher career conversion rate from beyond 50 yards even though Zuerlein has a demonstrably stronger leg.
Yes, but Forbath has only attempted about 1/3 of the 50+ yarders Zuerlein has, and even less than that on 53+ yarders, and none beyond 57 yards. 53 yards is about the max distance Forbath will attempt, and Zuerlein attempts 60+ yarders. In short, teams will give Zuerlein a lot more opportunities to attempt even very low % kicks because he has enough leg to at least take a shot, whereas they are more likely to keep Forbath at a distance within his comfort zone.

Since when did a 53 yarder come to be treated as an automatic chip shot? Forbath may not have even had the leg to get it there from that distance.
