I started at 7 years old. Back in the 70's in North Carolina we only got to watch the Red Skins .....sorry, "The Football Team" every Sunday. On Fridays at my father's work, guys would wear the Hog noses and silly garb. One week he bet his whole pay check on the Cowboys and at the time we could ill afford it.

Well, Dallas won and I have been a fan for 46 years now. I even have a star on my right shoulder. I'm hooked for life.

So, i say HI i'm MWH1967 and i'm a Cowboysholic. Good ,bad or indifferent.

What say you?

Two part answer:
  1. What it used to mean- a commitment to excellence- a serious Super Bowl contender most years.
  2. What it means now- a commitment to Jerry Jones- his ego, greed, and nepotism.

I’m 53, started watching the Cowboys with my dad, great memories! Growing up, the Cowboys rarely missed the playoffs, and most years they won at least one game.

now with an alcoholic, womanizing, megalomaniac owner, being a year in/year out contender is nothing but a distant memory despite somehow finding several great quarterbacks, more than most teams have had in their entire existence.

The painful part is knowing that the crazy owner plays real life fantasy football with this team. He cares about being recognized as a “football guy” despite putting in very little effort compared to real GMs, yet he’s the tie breaker and part of me thinks he always picks the second round pick.

Cowboys used to mean greatness. Now, it’s a rich guy’s real life fantasy football GM-ing.

You are a good fan, I am too because we we're lucky enough to be part of our SBs. Some fans are disappointed because they came on late expecting championships, but they have only seen frustrating times. I love the Cowboys and will defend them.

Yeah, at present it means waiting for the status quo w/ Jerry to change so I can get back to being an emotional fan again.

Dallas Cowboys, the best franchise created by the National Football League since 1960, currently in a quarter century slump.

Edit: The franchise has the worst conceived mascot representing an organization. In every aspect. In sports. In the world. Maybe in the universe.

Dallas Cowboys - Mediocrity

Boo! While that may be true, if that’s what the Dallas Cowboys “mean to you”, as OP asked, you probably ought to find something better to do on Sundays.

Dallas Cowboys, those words always bring me great joy. It reminds me of watching football with my dad, now watching with my wife and girls, making blueberry pancakes on game days and getting a chant going pregame with the kids.

It means all the great players who wore the uniform and all the great plays they made for us over the years; the Staubach/Pearson Hail Mary, Aikman’s bomb to Rocket Ismail to beat Washington in overtime, Romo’s scramble for a first down after the ball was snapped over his head.

Seriously, if none of those things resonate for you, why are you hanging out on a Cowboys’ forum anyway?

Dumb fans who scream for terrible QBs to be given the reigns because they have red hair and played at a Texas college
