From old Jerry’s comments seems like he was out of shape during the COVID period and this in turn begat his hip injury.

Consequently, his hip injury is now problematic to his getting back in shape and may require surgery.

No doubt the COVID protocols and situation has made any rehab and further evaluation problematic as well.

Not sure about him working out fine in the off-season, there were many reports he was simply out of shape.

I think you nailed it.

The only reason I can guess is that his injuries are protected by HIPAA laws because they happened from his car accident.

Teams get a free pass around HIPAA with football-related injuries because they are obligated to disclose those to the NFL and other teams which makes them available to the media as well.

If his injury was caused by his car accident, then the Cowboys would not legally be allowed to discuss or disclose his injuries unless he gave them permission and a player in his position would never do that for fear of limiting possible future contracts should the Cowboys release him at some point.

HIPPA only applies to health providers though...the Cowboys arent his health provider.

This was pretty much a COVID opt out but where the player still gets paid.

Why is it that nearly everyone Jerry decides to pay mails it in and quits??

Interesting from "not serious" to on IR to out for the season. Well who knows if this is another Marco Rivera bust of a contract situation injuries piled up and soon he was gone.

Just have the surgery and be ready for next season. Why have this linger than have surgery late and miss camp and everything next season too.

In my opinion, these comments cut to the heart of it:

"We are trying to work through some structure issues," Jones continued. "We're trying to work through those relative to -- I'm going to compare this to human activity with COVID. One begets the other. The less activity you can have sometimes in these injuries or in these health issues, the harder it is to get it better, and you can have something else that's preventing you from doing the things you need to do to get better in another part of your body. And that's what's happening here."

I think Collins sat around and did nothing during COVID, which made any pre-existing conditions worse.

And he also clearly declined to remain in the bubble for training camp (hence the car accident).

So I'm pissed at the player who didn't handle his business like a professional should. And now here we are, struggling, while he still collects every penny of his big contract.
Yeah I'm pissed too. I think there should be a clause in every contract that if the player doesn't act professionally with their offseason fitness then the team gets salary cap relief, the player doesn't get paid and the player loses that year of seniority.
