Nolan being on sideline had some positive influence

If we could just quit giving up 7-8 passes every game to completely uncovered receivers … that undermines all the good things and keeps drives alive even when the defense does a good job on 1st and 2nd down.

It annoys me when we make a big first down stop for a loss or there is a penalty and then immediately we give up an easy 7-9 yard pass play to allow the offense into a more manageable 2nd and 6 or 3rd and 6 after you had them behind the sticks. I don't know if it's Nolan getting too cute in those situations or our CBs/LBs just play soft to keep plays in front of them.

I pretty much focused all game on whether or not the edge defenders actually set the edge and except on those TE runs they did IMO. Runs up the middle and generally leaving receivers wide open is what killed them. I think Jaylon had a good game but on one play was basically standing still and let a receiver go by him. I can't imagine he was spying on Jones, but what do I know.

If his being on the sidelines meant still allowing 34 points to one of the worst offenses in the league, we're in trouble.

At this rate, he could walk out to midfield and stand on midfield all game long against the Cardinals and we'd still surrender 40.

Why do people keep saying 34 Damn pts? Blame 14 pts on the D for 2 offensive turnovers.

The worst ranked offense scored almost at-will against us...

Three FG's over 50 yards and a TD off of a very short field. And they had a pick 6.
So another TD from their 1st possession, a 2 point conversion and another FG.

Hardly scoring at will IMO.

Not saying they played well by no means, because they did not.

did you watch the game and see the offense gave up 14 of those points?

Obviously not.

I didn't realize that if you give a bad offense the ball on your 19 it means it's automatically 7?

A better defense holds a crap offense to three there. We barely put up a fight as the Giants scored easily.

I’m still interested to see if guys like Lawrence griffin and jaylon get better as we move on. No preseason and these are guys that predicate they’re game on having some quickness.

I think getting LVE back helps. I like Diggs... I think with a pass rush the corners could bee serviceable. It’s the middle of the d that’s a problem.

even if we could somehow be a high turnover defense that gave up a lot of yard I think we’d all take it. I thought that was going to be the case at the start of the year

defense played much better.
pass rush showed life.
they generated not only a turn over but got it in for a td.
got some stops when needed.
best they've looked since the rams game.
if they can string some of these together...with this offense...we gotta chance.
win the east.
make the play offs.
anything can happen.

Who gets responsibility for the punt return penalty that allowed the Giants to take a FG. I agree they needed to hold the Giants after the turnover so I’ll split the difference and say they’re responsible for 4 of the 7 points.

Points the defense couldn’t help:

INT TD - 7 points
Turnover at 17 - 3 points
ST Penalty allowing FG - 3 points.

So there’s 13 points the defense isn’t totally responsible for.

I'm inclined to believe it was just because we were facing the Giants but hope the defense can build on this.

Nolan's presence on the sidelines will allow quicker communication between himself and his defensive players. It's unlikely to change things drastically but it should help, at least, to some extent. We'd be well advised to make the best of what our current situation is and anticipate some better draft positioning in the year to come. It will surely take time for this defense to adjust to considerably better play. In the meantime, let's try to settle for being entertained. This team isn't likely to get anywhere in a playoff scenario, by the looks of things. A new staff and injuries should attest to that.

...finally, our defense began to show signs of life. They were actually shutting the running lanes down. They gave up around 90yds to 3 RB's sharing the load. Compare that to last week 300+. Will take it.

Jaylon and Dlaw finally came out of Zombie mode. Lets hope its for more than 1 game.

Not saying>>>> we found the fix, but a positive influence to possibly turning the corner.
Don't know if it was attributable to his presence, but jaylon and Lawrence finally showed up.

If the Vikings keep losing I think Zimmer will be available soon. Dump Nolan and bring back Zimmer please

Possibly so -- I'm hoping pride had something to do with it. We'll see if their effort persists. ;)

If the Cowboys lose this game would you have the same opinion? Results don't change the fact that the defense gave up 27 points to an anemic offense.
