It is rather easy for the defense to get in a bind when the offense is putting them in a hole for the first three quarters of the game. Dak has been a terribly slow starter and these slow starts begin last year. The offense also turned the ball over early in games. The defense is bad enough as it is without piling on the problems created by the slow starting offense.
Lol you mean the offense who scored on opening drives in consecutive weeks then the defense allowed the opposing team to march down the field and score a TD?

I am so shocked right now.
Don't fall for it. He posted this after Dak got injured for the year. And after 5 weeks when preseason is 4 games. If he meant it he would have posted it after the browns game not after dak was out for the year. The members here have perfected the art of dog whistling on pretty much every subject

I take the OP as a dig against Dak in a way.

I agree that the 1st 4 games or so is an adjustment period with the lack of off-season work.
But funny how he has not been heard from, that I seen anyway, until after Dak is injured. I am sure he is one of the ones that was happy and cheered.

also it is the time we start getting some key players back for the defense, so naturally they should play better to help the offense keep a lead, if they can get a lead.

Oh this is the “Dak only put up those numbers because defenses didn’t have pre season” post?

slippery son of a gun.

This has to be a set up thread. We just haven’t figured out his angle yet.
Let's forget about Dak for a minute, and who likes him and who doesn't.
What you have now is a new head coach and a new quarterback.
Neither has the previous philosophies of the Cowboys engrained in their minds.
So now you get to see a new coach and a new quarterback work on strategies that haven't necessarily been part of the offense before.
That's the point of getting to finally see McCarthy coach.
But we all expected the season to be a mess for the first few games.
And the defense is going to get better; it's just a work in progress. McCarthy will never settle for what we've seen.
But now, for the first time, you get to see a McCarthy led team and a new quarterback without pre-determined offensive philosophies from years past.

I see encouraging signs from McCarthy. On the special teams, 12 men on the field play, he said, they are changing the way they assign responsibility for that and they are going to do it the way he has always done it in the past. He did not elaborate, but the fact that the head coach is making changes to improve communication and to suit what he prefers, is a good thing.

Not until Kellen Moore is gone.

Umm. So the team is 2-3 because the offensive coordinator sucks? The team is scoring 32.5 points per game despite having to make long drives EVERY time because the defense can't stop anybody. The offense has turned the ball over a lot, but Kellen Moore has not fumbled the ball a single time this season. But, I'm willing to listen. Please enlighten me, How does getting rid of Kellen Moore improve the team's performance?

I guess all of these blow out scores by halftime shows just how great Dak and the offense was playing. Dak did the same thing last year with the same results.

In our 5th game, which we barely won vs the then 0-4 Giants, the Cowboys gave up 34pts — to a team that had scored 48pts combined in their first 4 games.

Unless McCarthy has some fairy-dust to sprinkle on the D, it’s hard to see this team going anywhere.

We may win the NFC Least title but, judging on what we’ve seen so far, it’s likely we’d be a one-and-done playoff team.

The Giants scored 10 points against our offense/special teams. The defense wasn't even on the field during those 10 points. Then on one drive the Giants started on the 15 yard line. If you take away that play the Giants offense realistically scores 17 points against our defense. So what I am trying to say is. The Giants had to go 15 yards against our defense to score 17 of there 34 points.
