Is it to early for us to have a fire sale?

I don't need to buy any fire. I can make my own.

Bring in new coaching staff, have a pandemic that wrecks the off-season, have a rash of injuries, have a fire sale after 5-6 games.

I am old enough to remember when Jerry was (justifiably) accused of being impatient and having a coaching carousel. He held onto Garrett too long for that reason I suspect.

I think giving up on this team in the first year, especially under these circumstances, would do harm to the team’s ability to recruit a coaching staff.

I have never advocated tanking for a player. However, I did advocate it if it meant the end of the Garrett era. And I stand by that and feel wholly vindicated in it being the correct decision based on what transpired afterwards. Several more seasons were wasted on a coach who was never up to the job gifted to him. And during that time, the bills came due and all of these players needed their big contracts, contracts that now look like mistakes, and a team that looks set for another wasted season spinning its wheels.

When a team has reached such a continued perpetual middle ground of success or lack thereof in my eyes, I am of the desparate times calls for desperate measures type.
Now before I go on, I realize it was pre cap, I realize it was a vastly superior coach imo comparing JJ to McCarthy, but my bottomline is the 1-15 tank, intended or unintended, accomplished a large amount of future team success off the 1-15 finish and corresponding draft.
Now this also may be a poor comparative choice, but as recent as the 2015 4-12 debacle and subsequent 2016 draft, there was a strong net positive in draft resources towards whatever is considered team success over these last 5 years. I know not even in the universe of the 89 and 90 draft hauls and follow on FA pick ups but more of an attempt by me to show that historically, when the Cowboys tank/suck they have shown to pick good to HOF level players when the draft selection choices are higher.

As for the coach choice, I'm not a fan nor am I confident in present or future contracts still to be written that they will be written in such a way as to the best long term interests of the team.

Appreciate your response

Go Cowboys

If only we could look into the future! LOL
Ok This is my thought process.

I have to ask myself is this team good enough to go to the SB and Win it?
MY answer is NO
There is so many good things that has happened and the future looks bright.
Diggs He is a keeper
Cee DEEE Is the future.
Our OL young guys are getting some playing time and experience. They really havent looked that bad considering that this year we are running a line that is without FreeBeard, Collins and Smith
Those are some big shoes to fill and we have played some descent Defense The true test is going to be here on out because Andy isnt Dak and opposing teams dont have to worry that he is going to take off and run.
Im not saying that we should Tank because we are still in this thing and thats funny as heck lol
After losing Dak we are about to find out just how good Dak is for this team.

Defense Oh My is just so horrible it is really hard for me to watch without getting pissed off. Im just not sure even when we get LVE LEE and Chido back that we will be any better. The DL that we thought would be a strength for us has been MIA I just dont have any faith in Nolan. Hate the hire just hate it and there are a few DC out there that can come in here and do a better job IMO. Not this year though.
Im trying to give Nolan the benefit of the doubt because really its been an off season with not much time to implement his system So Im trying to be rational
My question is should we try to trade for any one at this time or try to wait it out and build the DL, Secondary through the draft?
I really dont want to give up any of my top 3 picks unless its someone young that can come in and not cost us big $$$
We have some good draft picks and if Dallas loses five or more games I would look to trade players for more draft picks if they are not in my future plans.
No WAY am I giving up Gallup unless he nets me a 1st to a losing team and I would still be weary. I would like to see what this Offense can do when healthy and having a true off season and training camp.
Gallup and Cee Dee are our future 1 and 2 with Cooper being the odd man out.
Now if for some miracle Dallas goes on a 9 game win streak then thats different but by that time the trade dead line will have passed.
Guys that I would consider trading and this would hurt is Noah and Cedrick Wilson If I could get a 4th for Wilson I would do it.

I dont want to sound like the season is over cause there is still some football left. I just dont like what I am seeing with this defense that gives me any hope. For goodness sake Heath had an INT yesterday and I missed him thats so sad!
Unless Daks injury could be career ending we are going to have some money tied up with him Dak has shown me that he is the franchise QB and he has done nothing but work his butt off to improve his game. I am a Dak believer!

If I could get a couple of 1's for Zeke Now I would do that in a heart beat. I would even consider trading Tank if I see that he is not going to adjust and improve in this defense. If they decide to stick with Nolan.

Personally I would love to see Nolan being fired by years end and bring someone like Mike Zimmer in if he is fired. Leslie Frazier, Jim Schwartz. Not to sound rude but Floaty could come in and do a better job with this defense. lol
Only real bad contract is Zeke's. Amari and Jaylon Smith's are still TBD, but if they play or exceed their contract, its fine. As long as Tyron Smith and La'el Collins are 100% next year, I'm not worrying.

Again, if half of the below underachieve or don't play much of their contract, we are in trouble:
Amari Cooper
Jaylon Smith
Tyron Smith
La'el Collins

And one might argue they're all injury-prone.

How about Demarcus Lawrence?

This team could be 1-10 and Jerruh and Co. wouldn't have a fire sale. They would just find something else to blame it on because 'We like our guys'

Should be the first name listed, lol.

I agree. His is shaping up to far and away be the worst contract they're stuck with. But in his defense, he did play his best game of the season last Sunday, so I hope it was the beginning of him turning things around and once again being the pass rushing force we're paying him to be.

you're absolutely right. the guy has been so nonexistent before last week that I forgot about him.

I literally laughed out loud. You know it's bad when the 20 mil per year defensive end has been so dominant that he is forgotten altogether. Priceless.

Cheers
