Is it to early for us to have a fire sale?

If only we could look into the future! LOL
Ok This is my thought process.

I have to ask myself is this team good enough to go to the SB and Win it?
MY answer is NO
There is so many good things that has happened and the future looks bright.
Diggs He is a keeper
Cee DEEE Is the future.
Our OL young guys are getting some playing time and experience. They really havent looked that bad considering that this year we are running a line that is without FreeBeard, Collins and Smith
Those are some big shoes to fill and we have played some descent Defense The true test is going to be here on out because Andy isnt Dak and opposing teams dont have to worry that he is going to take off and run.
Im not saying that we should Tank because we are still in this thing and thats funny as heck lol
After losing Dak we are about to find out just how good Dak is for this team.

Defense Oh My is just so horrible it is really hard for me to watch without getting pissed off. Im just not sure even when we get LVE LEE and Chido back that we will be any better. The DL that we thought would be a strength for us has been MIA I just dont have any faith in Nolan. Hate the hire just hate it and there are a few DC out there that can come in here and do a better job IMO. Not this year though.
Im trying to give Nolan the benefit of the doubt because really its been an off season with not much time to implement his system So Im trying to be rational
My question is should we try to trade for any one at this time or try to wait it out and build the DL, Secondary through the draft?
I really dont want to give up any of my top 3 picks unless its someone young that can come in and not cost us big $$$
We have some good draft picks and if Dallas loses five or more games I would look to trade players for more draft picks if they are not in my future plans.
No WAY am I giving up Gallup unless he nets me a 1st to a losing team and I would still be weary. I would like to see what this Offense can do when healthy and having a true off season and training camp.
Gallup and Cee Dee are our future 1 and 2 with Cooper being the odd man out.
Now if for some miracle Dallas goes on a 9 game win streak then thats different but by that time the trade dead line will have passed.
Guys that I would consider trading and this would hurt is Noah and Cedrick Wilson If I could get a 4th for Wilson I would do it.

I dont want to sound like the season is over cause there is still some football left. I just dont like what I am seeing with this defense that gives me any hope. For goodness sake Heath had an INT yesterday and I missed him thats so sad!
Unless Daks injury could be career ending we are going to have some money tied up with him Dak has shown me that he is the franchise QB and he has done nothing but work his butt off to improve his game. I am a Dak believer!

If I could get a couple of 1's for Zeke Now I would do that in a heart beat. I would even consider trading Tank if I see that he is not going to adjust and improve in this defense. If they decide to stick with Nolan.

Personally I would love to see Nolan being fired by years end and bring someone like Mike Zimmer in if he is fired. Leslie Frazier, Jim Schwartz. Not to sound rude but Floaty could come in and do a better job with this defense. lol

A couple of things.

You're right, we do play a descent defense.

Two firsts for Zeke would be fantastic. But I don't think the same guy is in charge at Minnesota.

No chances are older than you. which is why I expect this team to continue to fight and not quit, a season is not 5 weeks long
Of course. That's obvious.

I can see that strategy is not your strong point. Thanks for the childish comments.

Thanks for the responses I do want to say I am a Cowboys Fan and I am not quitting or giving up on this team. I really think we have something special with this Offense.
I remember a few years back when we were the joke of the NFL and Some were talking about playing for draft picks. We were headed into Philly a game that everyone was saying we were going to get decimated by the Eagles and we went in there and beat them and went on to a 7 game win streak if I recall.
After Daks injury and the team saying that they want to do this for 4 could give this team a spark Who Knows

This D would not and could not win a super bowl. Are you happy merely playing for the playoffs, or do you want a team that can contend for a super bowl?

How about instead of trading players, we get a DC in here that hasn't produced some of the worst defenses in the league?

That would be a good start. To be honest, if I'm the Joneses, I'm giving Nolan until week 8 to show some improvement, otherwise I'm firing him and giving the job to George Edwards the rest of the way. At least then I will have accomplished something this season in knowing whether or not I have a defensive coordinator on the staff.

I really don't care whether McCarthy likes it or not, because nobody likes his choice for defensive coordinator. That makes us even.

Yes . It’s too early for a fire sale.

Fire sale, no! The transition to Dalton should force Kellen Moore to call a more traditional style of offence, which is to establish the run, drop back pass, and play action. I think that suits the Cowboy's and Dalton's strengths better. Biadasz is the new future at center, Knight at left tackle is'nt bad, and Steele, at right tackle, we'll see. Cowboys are in the hunt, no fire sale.
To "establish " the run, the o line has to win on the regular otherwise you get 3rd and long, then you get to see that the o line needs work in both run and pass blocking. To establish the run you have to run despite the defense expecting you to do so. But you gotta have success.

For a fire sale you have to have lots of valuable things you don't mind parting with. Dallas holds onto players until they have no value left. A fire sale doesn't mean you sell things that are on fire.

Who are you selling?

Dak? He's injured.
Zeke, Amari, DLaw? No one wants them with their contracts.
Tyron? Injured (again), best years are behind him.
Jaylon? I keep reading how he sucks so who would want him?
Martin? Okay, but that's a massive hole to fill.
You could trade Lamb, but does that help the team?

Who is going to be part of this "fire sale"?

First, the notion of "fire sales" isn't really real. How many teams actually just dump a large portion of their team and start from scratch? And, realistically, why would that make sense? Even with the defense, as bad as it is, 3-4 high quality players would make a big difference. Would need to be the right players of course - marginal upgrades wouldn't do the trick.

Before people start talking about fire sales, they first should take a look at player contracts. In doing so, you will find out that the Cowboys have locked themselves in to virtually every high profile, big money player on the team. They couldn't trade any of them even if they wanted to. This is exactly the problem when you operate a 'kick the can' accounting system, you borrow from the future and end up stuck with bad contracts and no way to get out of them.

Exactly. Very well explained.
My stance is contradictory because of exactly what you describe here.

More specifically, when the annual Tank for insert whomevers name comes about yearly I will always be one of the biggest supporters of this because I want real change and believe bottoming out at the very least ensures top picks in all draft rounds.

Unfortunately the existing conditions of overpaid contracts and guarantees to undeserved vet players usually prevent the Tanked for draft picks strategy to have its positive impact because of the limited remaining contract money left to offer better than avg. veteran depth. So vet firesales can rarely ever happen because of said stipulations.
If there is very good to excellent coaching, sometimes that not so avg. bunch of vet depth(jags) can be coached up to at least a serviceable level from the starter level. If the coaching is not up to par there is not much chance of any improvement.

Translation: Don't overpay vets and get better coaches for the existing free agents you do sign..
Dallas sucks at contracts and coach choices.

I have never advocated tanking for a player. However, I did advocate it if it meant the end of the Garrett era. And I stand by that and feel wholly vindicated in it being the correct decision based on what transpired afterwards. Several more seasons were wasted on a coach who was never up to the job gifted to him. And during that time, the bills came due and all of these players needed their big contracts, contracts that now look like mistakes, and a team that looks set for another wasted season spinning its wheels.
