OMG, not the eye test...didn't people here claim we would be fine with Dalton after he played 1/3 of the giants game....touting stats left and right.

now after one game, we declare Gilbert is it....there is a reason this guy in 7 years never played an NFL game and threw his first TD ever and was playing in the AAF.....

not saying he sucks, but they all suck. the millimeter difference between all of them is negligible, as they are all at the bottom of the barrell....
To be fair, back ups who play behind legit franchise QBs aren't going to get a lot of training camp or practice snaps and unless there's an injury, not a lot of game snaps either. He never really had an opportunity and wasn't good enough to start of guys like Brady, Stafford, Carr, Newton, and Mayfield.

There's always a need for backup QB's. No, Gilbert is not some proven stud or anything, but he definitely showed enough that someone would snag him quickly if left available.
He would serve well as a back up for a couple 2-3 games IMO. Nothing Earth shattering.

Probably. The list is short of QB's who suddenly panned out later in their careers. And if you spend too much time looking for that guy, you'll waste a ton of great young prospects. Hey, maybe Gilbert is Frank Reich or Jeff Hostetler. More than likely, however, his upside if Nick Foles, a good backup who always gets exposed when he plays too much.

The poise this kid showed was amazing. Plus he’s big and strong. I want to see more but he looks like the perfect backup QB for this team.
If this wasn't his 7th year in the league, I'd be thinking of him as a possible starter. One thing for sure, we need to see more!!!

So you refuse to give him credit for his performance last Sunday against the league's current #1 and only undefeated team simply based on your assumption? To Hell with the eye test and what performance you saw?

As much as I liked Gilbert’s performance, it’s just one game. I would rely more on the coach’s discretion. Good news is that McCarthy picked Gilbert over Dinucci and Rush.

The game where Martin played like 5 plays?
And? Even when available, Martin has been playing injured and not fully healthy. When Martin missed time, McGovern played pretty good. This year's Oline has been a makeshift Oline all season, so every QB has pretty much had to play behind an inconsistent Oline.

The eye test solidifies this.

Garrett Gilbert looked much better with this same Cowboys Offense than what Andy Dalton & Ben DiNucci have this season, plus Cooper Rush the past several seasons.

Gilbert should be the starting QB for the next game, not Dalton. Obviously, Jerry and Stephen are favoring Dalton to start because he is costing them much more to be on the team.

If we're going according to performance and how they were able to carry the Offense, shouldn't Garrett Gilbert be starting?

What say you?

except the offensive line was in worst shape when Dalton played, the defense was still terrible. Gilbert had a pretty steady Oline, that had Looney and Martin back and a defense that looks improved, also add in sp tms. Context

Stop.

You heard it here folks. All-Pro Martin is not a big deal and makes no noticeable difference.

Gilbert played against a much better opponent and Dline than what Dalton did.

Martin has been at about 60-70%. Not the old Zack Martin yet. McGovern looked pretty good the little he has played so far.
Yeah, no. Martin, since his return, has been a huge step up.

I think you're trying to use pre-return Martin (which was still better than McGovern by a long shot) in place of Martin post-return. And you're really trying to undersell him, and oversell McGovern.

There's been a substantial improvement in OL play the last 2 weeks (and it's still not all that great).

in terms of Dline not much better, as far as opponent, he had better support than Dalton.
if the supporting cast around Dalton played to the level they did Sunday, Dalton would looked way better. again context

I was an All State Olineman in high school, so I know what to look for when observing Olinemen. You weren't.

I'm not ready to say he's better than Andy after 1 game. Andy also didn't have much of Martin to help with protection. Too early to get excited on Gilbert and say he's the best of that group. We act as if he just posted a near perfect QB rating, when it was actually 72. Look he played well considering the circymstances but should reserve judgement after 1 game.

one game!!! a single game!!! like I said, there is a reason this guy has been around for 7 years and just threw his first TD pass and was wasting away in AAF.....but hey, forget the past 7 year and all the teams and coaches who had him and saw him first hand. lets go with the one game eye test from the couch!!!

did you know Garrett played and beat GB on thanksgiving game throwing for over 300 yards....I mean 300!!! wow....
